Took too long getting out of bed at our (new!) place to discover that my parents had left early on their way down to help me finish up moving and packing. Maybe I'll squeeze one in tomorrow, but it will likely be another weekend completely off the bike. At this rate, my legs should fall off from atrophy fairly soon

today, thanks to a sign putter-upper than didn't have a clue, i got in 48 miles instead of a metric century. oh well. glad i never pay to do these rally ride things. bandit style is where it's at.

Today a random homeowner stopped his weed whacker so that he could yell at me to, "Get off the road and get on the trail!"
I also needed to raise my voice and point pepper spray at a motorist. The driver put their front fender about a foot from my left leg as I climbed a hill and held their car there until it was clear to me that they were not going to pass. I rode off the road and they stopped and just stared at me. Not sure what their deal was but they drove off when I pointed the spray. I'm just glad they didn't have a gun.

Today I rode my fixed-gear for the first time since hitting a deer a couple weeks ago. I'm always slightly nervous that I'll forget the little fixed-gear nuances and eat it after trying to coast, but everything went fine.

the (lack of) signage lead to some pretty nasty wrecks, broken bones, numerous ambulances and high tempers. they rally paid out top 3 women and men, so people showed up to get some money. chaos ensued.

Not to bum people out but one of my best friends was hit in Charlottesville by that insert a billion expletives naziscumbag. They are broken and bruised but still alive and as well as one can be in that situation. Life can be really rough sometimes.
I won't get political or go on a big rant but I will say this: If you have to hate, hate everyone equally without regards to race, sex, creed, orientation, religion (or lack thereof) or any other innate quality someone has. Be egalitarian in your hate if you cannot find love for everyone. I am a reasonable person I understand people hate each other but just don't be a richard about it.

They're like big rabbits, and one of them dashed across the road right in front of me when I was almost home from a club ride. It swept out my front wheel, and I was on the ground before I knew it. Fortunately I wasn't going very fast and didn't break anything, although my hip, shoulder, and ribs were sore for weeks afterward. My bike was fine apart from the crooked handlebars and scuffed handlebar tape.

That's pretty wild, glad to hear you didn't get too banged up. I used to live upstate NY for a bit and remember having to watch out for deer when driving, but never when biking. Now the most I have to worry about when it comes to wildlife is the annoying pigeons that are too lazy to fly away

Last night I rode with 38 mm tires.
I was previously running 35's and wanted to see if the extra volume increased comfort noticeably and what the trade off would be in terms of weight and rolling resistance. Same brand and model of tire and I honestly thought I'd wasted a bunch of money.
The difference was really surprising. The added weight and resistance was negligible but the added comfort was really remarkable given that it was only 3 mm. It was super plush, like riding a mid-70's Cadillac.

Yesterday I did 34 miles with 2,547 ft of elevation and ate vegetarian the whole day.
Today I was hungry.
