Ok, last night I got to where I wanted to pull the cranks off and give the BB a good scrubbing and get the information off the BB so I know what size bearings to get for it (bearings feel good, but while I'm taking it all apart I might as well replace them along with the fresh grease). However none of my current tools will get on the bolt head. 15mm is too big, 14mm is too small. So what do I need to get these things out?

Also think it's time for me to aquire a better set of BB and headset wrenches.

Those *should* be a standard 15mm bolt, or possibly a 14mm replacement, so I guess it's your sockets. I have the best luck with my Park "peanut butter" wrenches: they fit the bolts perfectly and don't slip. Campy and TA made similar wrenches that cost more.

+1. 14mm and 15mm are pretty much the standard for crank bolts. The only exceptions I'm aware of are old Stronglight and Zeus, which used 16mm. The old Lambert amy have been different too. Normally this is more of an issue with 15mm bolts, but could it be that the walls on your 14mm socket are too thick to fit into the extractor hole?

i can see they are campy bolts from here and then definitely 15mm..
it's your socket that won't fit into the extractor hole..
what you need is a peanut butter wrench

ps.: sent your package out today

coel, thanks for the confirmation on the rims. Now I suppose I should order the new spokes too so I can get *that* project done before I dive into *this* one too much.

Thanks for the info on the bolt. I was kind of guessing that it might have been my tool being too beefy on the outside to fit. Looks like its a trip to the LBS today for a couple new tools.

OK C&V'ers. How's this for a plan for this Serotta:

Forget modern Campagnolo for the moment. I think the Gazelle will remain the planned frame for that build. But I have something even better in mind:

1) Paint the frame a darker metalic red, Serotta decal in probably white with black outline.
2) Put the cleaned up Campagnolo Super Record group back on it.
3) Move the fluted seatpost from the Gazelle over to the Serotta.
4) Mount my Honey Brooks B-17 on top of that fluted post.
5) Wrap my Cinelli 66-42 bar with a set of Brooks Honey leather wrap.
6) Run tubulars with traditional tan/skin wall Conti tires.

Sounds like a show stopper of a ride to me.

Update:

Just discovered the first bad part on the bike:

One broken rear axle, and one bent rear skewer. Right now the DuraAce freewheel is being a bit stubborn to come off so I can clean it and the hub but I bet once I get it somewhere with a vise and some room I can put the tool in the vise and free the freewheel.

New Thread about the rebuild/paint/etc here: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=272422
