Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This one's a bit different. You're looking at about an 80 foot drop over a block.

Yup. It's not as flat as people think. Hill country can be pretty challenging. Here's some of my photos from the Easter Hill country tour in Kerrville, if you are interested. Beautiful countryside. Lots of pics of people walking their bikes uphill. Riding there is usually the only time I use my third chainring.

I'm not sure about the Houston area, but here in Ft. Worth, there are plenty of hills once you get out of the city and into farm country.

Was there only a couple of weeks ago. All Eastern Sierra, CA...

First is Onion Valley Road from Independence.
Second is Whitney Portal from Lone Pine.
Third is Sherwin Grade (Lower Rock Creek Road) from Bishop.

Here are a couple of pics from my annual FL Ocala Nat Forest visit earlier this month. It was mostly flat and hot, but nice riding.

Dawn ride here in Richmond. Nice nearly full moon riding above a layer of clouds with some morning mist right at daybreak. My first ride back on the bike after my honeymoon, not a bad week!

We didn't know Texas was hilly either....until we rode across it during RAAM....ouch.

Not Yosemite - as I have nearly identical photos from 3 weeks ago.

Onion Valley Rd - https://climbinglama.blogspot.com.au/...september.html

Whitney Portal - https://climbinglama.blogspot.com.au/...ey-portal.html

Mosquito Flat - https://climbinglama.blogspot.com.au/...-flat-3rd.html

One of many from my recent three week holiday riding the mountains in CA, CO and AZ.

This is late afternoon light riding back to Fairfax whilst riding the Alpine Dam loop in San Francisco.
