Is this normal for an Ultegra crank?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What's the old saying? Something like "Those who ignore history are doomed to be trolled"?

You have Ultegra gear, too ?
I have both 6800 and 9000 series cranksets, and it doesn't concern me greatly. How many do you think have been sold in the past 4 years?

If this worries you, I hope you aren't using a Thomson stem, or SRAM/Avid hydraulic disc brakes.

He probably died after trying to glue his cranks back together.

Probably trying to think of a plausible story to back up his purchase of 6800 cranks.

What I can’t figure out is why he wouldn’t just get a warranty replacement, and sell it. Obviously he doesn’t trust the design, so use the money for a crankset that he trusts.
