It was 40 F when I left my apt in the morning, frosty in the canyon bottoms until the sun came up. I didn't hesitate to get out there and was fine, ears were a little cold for the first 30-40 min but I was OK.

Where I went to college (Humboldt Co, N Cal coast by Oregon) conditioned me for the cold a little better than living in San Diego otherwise would. It's not northeast real cold, but the climate is certainly more PNW (think Seattle, Portland, lots of grey misty days and rain) than SD or even the bay area. There's a few weeks every winter where 40-45 F is the high temp, and many weekend group rides would start below freezing.
I remember one weekend it was like 39-40F at the start, and a visiting collegiate cyclist from Vermont started our ride with short sleeves - no gloves even. We all that he was crazy. He thought it was warm.

Having gone to college in the Northeast, the winter days I dreaded most were when I opened the blinds to bright sunny skies. That usually meant that it was going to be bitter cold, the kind of cold that stings through your clothes.

well today is one of those sunny/cold days in New England.

30º recovery ride for me! I was out for 47 minutes and it only took me 45 to warm up! Still preferable to the trainer.

I have recently been getting on the trainer for 1-1.5 hours, doing my workout and then riding to work. Black ice has been really prevalent lately and I am not to keen to do intervals on it.

40+ mph gusts, almost went down a few times. Being in a canyon, it wasn't one direction, so it would hit you where you didn't expect it.
Conditions hampered my handing and breathing to a small extent, but I had unrealistic expectations to start off. 15 watts higher than my last one, still well under my all time.
Wife took some pics, yes I'm still fat but I'm 26 lbs less fat than August.

I've done 8 hours this week so far. About 4.5 of those in low z3, then almost 3 hours today in z2 after I quickly realized I couldn't go any faster. I feel like crap. So tired and so irritating just riding slow. Trying to do another slow ride tomorrow sounds awful. Maybe I'll try some sprints or something.
I remember why I don't like riding a lot of hours...

It’s been in the 40’s at night. Way too cold to ride ... so I’ve been on the trainer during the week. Using a Lemond Revolution. It sounds like a fighter jet is in my garage, but the “feel” is great.

I did a 1-hour TT effort today. Speed was not good, but no wheels/helmets/it was cold & windy/etc... but power was good.
I did ride the entire thing on my scrotum, which has 2 holes in it that I discovered in the shower...

y'all need to stop complaining about the weather. I almost went for a ride outside today because it was "nice." AKA I could breathe through the smog and it was above 32 degrees.
Decided against it because the sun would have set by the time I was done so I just hopped on a zwift race and did terribly again. Same as last night. The step up from B to A cat is HARD. Still pushing good power though.

30 minutes on the mountain bike yesterday..group i was supposed to ride with didnt want to wait 2 minutes for me, so i did 1 lap easy.
Then ~45 minutes on the treadmill with 30 minutes of running..
Then another 1:15 on the trainer in the evening with a ~40 minute Rouvy race at the bike shop.

I've fallen into the off-season doldrums. The weather sucks. Racing is so far away. The holidays are more stressful than they need to be. And training feels more like torture than anything else. It doesn't help that my training efforts have kind of plateaued.

60 minutes easy this morning before my flight home. Was going to do it on my tt bike but it was really noisy on the trainer this morning so I swapped it out since I was riding in my apt at 5.30 in the morning.

Been feeling off this morning, low energy and just not good. Just coughed a minute ago and it felt like a viral infection... not that I get sick often or anything, almost never really. Bummer because I had a 5 hr ride planned for today that I was really looking forward to. I'm going to miss some volume, had 10 hrs planned over the next three days, damn.
I know that this loss of TSS/fitness will smooth itself out over a couple months but I'm still irritated.

Its a rest week but fitness doesn't exist in the vacuum of what we do on the bike. Lack of sleep, allergies, and the general malaise of winter is leaving me a bit off today.
I have the group ride planned tomorrow but its supposed to be the 30's during roll out. 1st race is in 4 weeks so I need to start getting some reps in, just going to have to suck it up.

my tendinitis flared up after the weight lifting on Tuesday. I thought I was doing low enough weights that it wouldn't happen. I did 60 reps at 180lb + weight of apparatus. So I couldn't do any substantial riding the rest of this week. Bummer. I guess I can't really do lower body weights unless I take it much easier.

Using machines can kinda let you lift more weight than your joints can handle. Freeweights ftw, but you gotta be good about your form. Hope it gets better quick, tendinitis is annoying af

day off, so i went for a ride out to the coast, over the hills. it was cold (for here).
flying out tomorrow for a few days of no bike, so i’ve been trying to get in some hours. 13 so far this week, that’ll probably be it unless I ride tomorrow before the flight.

Visiting my sis. Did one of the Christian VV rides on her Peleton. It wasn’t terrible. Mix of short intervals:30/30’s, pyramid type stuff. Probably too much HIIT for this time of year, but what the hey.

2.5 hours today, tryin to keep it pretty mild cuz 3 day weekend + minimal fitness.
Mostly steady z2/3 with a bit of off roading for fun.
Team ride tomorrow if I wake up early.
Planet of the Apes ride (old ancient hill trail) on Christmas to carry on my one year tradition.

That just seems like such a bad idea on so many different levels.
Hope you feel better soon, though.
