I'm here, though I just have ideas and no prints. At some point I'm going to try a Cygolite Hotshot mount for my Wike DIY trailer. I've also toyed around with GoPro mounts for my Magicshine headlights, but that will probably wait until spring when I don't need as much light and can toy around with other options.

There is a guy in Vancouver BC that does Magicshine GoPro mounts in aluminum. He is very good and I usually recommend him when people need that, I would love to see what you do with the Hotshot. If you need any help or advice just PM me.

Could you model and make a mount for a Fenix BC30R front light?

If I had a mount in my hands for a couple of days, I could probably design a Fenix to GoPro adapter that would allow mounting on the integrated Blendr Mount. But I would need to borrow a mount.

Just finished up another project, Mike wanted a way to quick-release a Delta-Cycle Smartphone Caddy and we came up with this mount. It replaces the little screw on section with one that has a Garmin Quarter-turn mount under it. We had both contacted Delta Cycle before starting this project but they appeared uninterested in doing this themselves.


On the bike it looks like this, you can see the original screw just peeking out under the mount. The Garmin handlebar mount is just a cheap Amazon offering.

I needed an adapter for my Delta Cycle Smartphone Holder that connected to my Garmin mount. I was able to get one designed and 3D printed that met my needs. Here is a rendering if anyone is interested.

Winter has been slow and I have been doing a bunch of PC mod parts working with Cooler Master and on my own PC, but I did get a request from a rider that has both Specialized and Fizik saddles and wanted to move his Fizik saddle bag from one to the other with ease. Here is what we designed.

At the request of someone on another forum ultimately concerned about weights, a Bontrager Low Blendr mount with integrated GoPro mount.

Bontrager Blendr Low mount in three sizes specific to your Garmin device. Small = 5xx and 820, Medium = 800 & 810, Large = 10xx. GoPro mount is centered under the Garmin device, each one is designed slightly different to take into account the longer arm required to mount larger Edge devices.

Just updated my designs for Trek owners for the Wahoo BOLT, it is shorter than the ELEMNT Blendr Mount and so brought in closer to the bars. The selections are Small = BOLT, Large = ELEMNT. Both Blendr High and Low mounts are modeled.

Here is an interesting piece for Trek Madone Series 9 owners. I had a request from someone who moved to a SRAM eTAP system and wanted to cover the access hole in the frame. Apparently not available from Trek he asked if I could do something for him, So I created this:

It is a cover blank. Mounts exactly like the original mount and is available in black or white in Acrylic and multiple colors in nylon.

The best part about it is that it can be customized with a single line of engraved text up to 22 characters in length.

Unfortunately Shapeways built in customizer does not allow you to select a typeface or control the size in any meaningful way. It will center the text along the length and the character height is approximately 6 mm

Shoutout to @WheresWaldo for this Flare R rack mount. I wanted it below the rack mount holes for more clearance from the top of the rack. It lowers the Flare R 16 mm from the mount holes and still has plenty of clearance for the fender. Here's a link to it: https://shpws.me/NWa5. And here it is on my Tubus Evo rack:

I might have missed it, did we talk about a Fly6[v] mount? It's the current version of the Fly6 and uses a velcro strap. All I've found so far is something like this: Fly6[v] Rear Bike Rack Bracket by Hackerbee - Thingiverse

We did talk about it but I have never seen one in person, much less time with one to measure it to see how a mount might be configured. Since it is no longer a separate mount I can't do much with it without having one for a few days to test with.

From the looks of it, I think a snap in mount could be devised that inserts into both sides of the strap slot, but I can't know for sure. Obviously I could do something similar to what Hackerbee did and continue to use the strap, but while that solution may work I don't think it is very elegant in design.

Maybe one of the other designers here can come up with a solution.

I finally was able to model an SRM mount!

The version with the ball bearings is simply not printable with today's technology but the version that contains the catch is. Both versions of the SRM mount have identical dimensions. The first part is a model based on the old Bontrager Blendr mount but moved to the left side and offset 4.5 mm to make the SRM PowerControl 8 sit centered on the Bontrager Blendr stem/handlebar mounts. The mount is identical in depth to the OEM mount provided by SRM. Here are a few renders:



It is not quite ready yet as I am trying to confirm a couple of dimensions, but should be available by tomorrow. Now that the mounbting section has been modeled I can now take requests for unique SRM mounting options.

Because of the angle the picture was taken at, it is hard to see that the PC8 is actually centered on the Blendr mount.

He is getting a second one in a different material and promised to send me pictures mounted on the bike.

One more request for a Topeak / Prologo Quick Clip mount for a Niteflux tail light. I am not fond of the Prologo version of the quick release as it hangs off a very small section of the back of the saddle shell. It isn't very sturdy and vibrates a lot. Of course all that vibration may make you tail light more visible.

I'd like to have a go at printing a simple handlebar mount for my Bontrager Ion 700. Anyone know of a Bontrager mount design I can borrow as a starting point? The factory one vibrates a lot and rattles; really a surprisingly poorly designed part.

Did you try searching on Thingiverse? Bontrager isn't open with their designs so you would have to look at some file repositories like Thiniverse or YouMagine to find someone who has already done the work of reverse engineering the mount. Yeggi is kind of like a search engine for 3D models. Too bad some of the companies are not more like Wahoo, they actually put their mount design in a publicly accessible form and location.

This post is more for @JonnyHK, @ItsJustMe, @jdoff, and anyone else that has an FDM style 3D printer. I just picked up a new printer that uses SLA technology (like the Form 1 & 2) It uses an LCD and UV LEDs to expose a layer at a time of UV cured resin. It should allow for testing a lot of new designs. Mine is a clone of a Taiwanese printer, Not the Wanhao D7 which is derived from this printer, KLD-LCD1260. If you guys are looking for something with a bit finer detail and something that will allow you to create stronger parts or have the time to play with another printer tech, you should look at these LCD based printers.

A few advantages are finer detail in prints, potentially faster print times, ability to print models that are problematic on an FDM style printer. Some disadvantages are more tweaking necessary to fine tune exposure times, higher cost of consumables, learning to build models that minimize the amount of resin trapped on the inside.

Send me a PM if you want to know more. I am just starting to play with it so I don't know a lot, but I will share what I do know.

There aren't a lot of resin makers in the US that are willing to sell liters at a time, most want to sell you a drum at a time. Resin isn't cheap but some of the detail you can get out of these printers is just incredible. BTW, this is an evolution of the OpenSLA printers that used older/used DLP projectors to expose and cure daylight cured resin.

I've been looking for a garmin twist and lock like what you have. I don't need the sony, just the garmin so I can double stick some tape to a ipad etc. Can you help me out? do you have a g code file for it?

You've inspired me to start playing with 3D printing, something I've always wanted to do BTW. It's a bit of a learning curve for me as I work in heavy industry with 1/8" tolerances so scaling down is a bit of a challenge for me. For now the limiting factor is the cost of experimenting, I've printed with shapeways. I either need to come up with a good argument to get my employer to purchase one or purchase one for myself that's the best balance between price and function.

Ed, if you are just using the printer to "Prototype" parts then a well tuned FDM printer usually can print most anything. There are numerous printers out there but if you stay with a printer that has a large 'community' then things will be easier. For a lot of people that means something like a Prusa Mk.3, or if money is less of a concern, something like an Ultimaker 3. Better known and better supported printers tend to also work a bit better out of the box. A lot less fidgeting to get them to work. My first printer purchase could have been better and it took me about 6 months of tinkering and software adjustments to get results that were reliable and repeatable. But since I tinker so much that is why I decided this go round to use a lesser supported resin printer, knowing full well that things will need tweaking and tinkering to get it to work with confidence. Otherwise I would simply have purchased a Form 2 from Form Labs.

One more note, learn how to model down to the fractional mm.

I only post stuff on Shapeways after I know the design is viable. It might not be 100% perfect but they usually work and then if I need to, usually the result of some design restriction placed on models by the different printing processes Shapeways uses, small adjustments to the model are made. Shapeways is the last place to test different models usually the result of the cost involved and time required to see how your print turned out.

Join a couple of 3D online communities and if your town has a 'Maker Space' go to one of their events and ask questions. Most 'makers' will welcome you and be forthcoming with answers.

I'll have to look around. From a modeling standpoint I've been on Pro/E since the early 90's so I'm pretty competent with it. I modeled up a little GoPro mount and thought I left enough slop for the bolt holes and nuts but had to ream the bolt hole and muscle the nut into place, on the bright side it won't ever come out. My initial experience is that tolerances are pretty tight when printing but tend to come in slightly undersized.

Thanks for the Maker Space advice as well...
