I thought I was out of the bike collecting and flipping phase of my life, but we were in the country, and while visiting the dump, I came upon this thing. I saved it and got it on the road again. More information here: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vi...-explorer.html

I am leaning against a Gran(d) Sport(s). I own a '73ish Grand Sports and notice some differences such as the the bottom bracket lug and top of the fork crown.

The main tubes are 531 butted - I'm not sure about the fork and stay tubing. The seat post is 27mm in diameter. I put a pair of 27" x 1 1/4" wheels on it, and they have about 2cm of clearance to the fork crown and brake bridge. There are of course no decals other than the Reynolds decal at the base of the seat tube.

Would anyone know which model this is?

I see what you mean about the fork crown. Mine is flat on top and the points appear to be slightly longer. The bottom bracket lug is definitely different than yours, but the seat lug and brake cable stop seem to be the same.

Would you like to weigh in on what I have?

@rjhammett

Is that a necked down ferrule going into the rear brake cable stop?

I am not sure how rare they are. There are a few bike shops that sell used parts that I frequent. I can look for one if you want.

I think if you're taking a casual visit to the dump, you're not out of the flipping phase.

Does yours have Zeus dropouts? Only other one I could think it possibly is, is a competition. 71ish.

It doesn't. The first bike I thought of since it has the fancier BB lug was a Competition but owners of that bike would need to weigh in.

This must be Raleigh Month. I picked up another one today - a Raleigh (USA) Olympian. It is rough having spent most of its life outside under a tarp, but it is complete. So far nothing is seized; I have applied Liquid Wrench to the crank and pedal bolts. The drop-outs are stamped Raleigh. The seat post and stem were fine. Some how this bike made its way from South Dakota to the Maryland shore - the aluminum bits certainly show evidence of the salt air. Anyway here are some photos:

After work today, I went back to the Olympian to remove the cranks and pedals (after 24 hours with a Liquid Wrench application). I had not noticed that it had a home-made triple chain ring. The innermost ring is a Shimano Bio-Pace, nearly the same size as the second ring - it appears to be attached backward (wrong side).

Well, looks like I just won this Batavus on ebay. I forgot all about bidding, opening bid was 9.99 and I threw a max of 35.00 and won at 31.00. I guess the $100 shipping scared people, but its a 35 minute drive for me. Now, what to do with it?

Clean it up and ride it, well built but fairly heavy bikes. I've had a few through the garage but never found one to keep as I require an exceptionally large frame.

Single speed, since the components are junk anyway.

The canvas Schwinn seat bag is pretty cool. That's about it.
