Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

(i straightened the wheel after this pic as i didn't know it was crooked lol)

I had my bars setup the same way and yes, the flat parts right before the upturn at the end is pretty much useless. However, it did make for an amazing setup for climbing.

thats an aggressively forward seat, aggressively low bars, and a mountain short reach.

aggressive stance, shorter torso, longer legs, sounds like my bike fit. I like it.

its not short torso. its a conscious decision to keep overall reach short for comfort reasons, reasonable, and put as much of it into sexy y displacement instead of x for aesthetic reasons, slightly less logical. bfssfg 101.

I didn't even think about the low bars part. I see what you mean. Maybe the drops are never touched unless standing?

i hope the drops get used or else the reach is hilarious hipster short, but if the drops get used...

theres some interesting logic at work, but as long as youre riding, its tough to fault anyone. plus, its some sexy photography.

current incarnation of my Spicer. actually I've since put the matching Pasela on the front, but at 28mm it rubs the brake (which wasn't previously using). Bolted the front wheel a millimetre or so down in the dropout. Dunno how long it's gonna stay like this, but I think I'll send Mr. Spicer an email thanking him for all the enjoyment he's given me since I got this thing.

e: you can't see for my helmet I guess but that's a massive steel 1" threadless stem on there now, that replaced a Thomson (oh boy)

i never used the downward sloping parts. i was either on the ends/brakes[95% of the time] or just hands at the stem hipster grab.

also, i just lold at the 52 ring. that was just after i rebuilt it and couldnt find the 42. i ride that bike 42/12-21corncob.

everyone wants to do the down sloping jackass bullhorn angle but no one wants to do the sensible slightly downward sloping ramps of compact drops.

corn cob cassettes are sweet. i have a wide range one right now, but it maxes out at 12 to avoid the monster 11 12 shift.
