I really, really, meant to post my progress on this forum, but I always have trouble logging on: sorry about that. Did the trip on a Bike Friday.

It was a good trip except for the first day, in Poland, when it was raining heavily and my maps were out-of-date and useless and the sand was deep and the hills were steep and the cobblestones, if I was lucky enough to find some, were rough. A bit nerve-wracking, too, in Turkey, where the trucks were legion and I had to ride through about 30 tunnels, up to 4 km long. I'll try to post some photos.
Hah! it worked. First one is Lutherstadt Wittenberg, second is Dresden Neumarkt Platz, the third is the beginning of the spectacular scenery along the Elbe R as you enter Czech Republic. I'll post some from the later part of the trip when I've shrunk the files.
John - there has to be a bunch of great stories behind that ride.

My Earthbound body recently completed it's 68th trip around the sun. But, the lady who reads auras says I am an "old soul" and a Shaman. Oh, and that we are all of the same energy & intelligence in the Universe. So, I'm not sure where or if I fit in but this planet sure is entertaining. It's one of my favorites.

I just came back from the Bajorran sector where I met our old friends the Klingons and the Romulans from the Federation. I had a little trouble with the worm hole on re-entry because the new bar ends I installed when I stopped by Dr. Spock's Spoke Emporium were a little bit too wide.

ctpres: there are - I'm trying to write a "blog" (what's the word for a late blog? Latblog? Flatbog?), and when I have it done I'll put it on my website, Biker Berry Blog | A Geriatric Gentleman Geologist's Notes on Energy Outlooks, Endurance Athletics, and Solo Cycle Safaris.. The older I get, the harder it seems to write, the easier to ride. I never thought it would be like that! John

There's a little shop in Diagon Alley that will sell you a CF thrust booster that should solve that problem. Read about it in The Dancing Wu Li Masters.

Hello bruce19,
You and I are both "out there", I remember that tome from the 1980's I believe. I know Hawking and others have their own ideas but that is what I shall enjoy while I am in my sunset years. Speaking of the Sun, I took a beautiful picture of the full moon last night under cloudless skies. Was it cloudy in Lebanon or where you priviledged (not 2 good at sp.) to see it?
Regards.
Jim.

Hi - as the starter of this thread in 2006, I say WELCOME!!

It seems as if many more 50+ folks are now 65+ or older (I guess it happens with aging ) and are posting in the regular 50+ threads.

I just couldn't force myself out of bed early enough yesterday or today to go riding. I have to get out by 9AM or I'll really suffer and my wife will fuss at me because of the heat. I just felt like lazing around till 8:30. Too late to get ready and get out before 9:00.
I always ride alone. There are other cyclist around here but I see them on the way to the trail, either ahead of me or behind me or they pass me as they're heading home because they left really early. Not sure if I'm tired of riding alone or tired of the hot weather.
Any thoughts?

Is there a bike club in your area or LBS with organized rides? Both are available here. I was last of five Express B riders this AM. ~ 37 mi. 22.8k/h. Aug. total 619k; 3236k 2014. Riding more; appreciating the experience and friends immeasurably.

Hi Ron. Seems perhaps like a change of pace is needed.

Before wasn't riding the first thing you wanted to do and it got you out of bed running to get in the saddle?

Suspect many or all of us welcome some change after years of riding and a ton of miles.

We moved from Atlanta to west central Florida where there are lots of nice bike trails because my wife was always worried that I'd get hit by a car while riding in Atl traffic. So was I even though I never was -- just a few close calls. After being hit last Monday (Labor Day) all I can say is at 69.7 years of age I'm getting too old for this sort of thing.

You can read about the accident here.
Look at my signature and you'll see the fate of the bike.

I am 76 and have been riding a 21 speed KHS TC 150 for several months. I was up to 26 miles before I had A mini stroke or a TIA. I am back up to 15 miles and gaining. My first goal was 30 miles. Don't know where I want to go after that.

Had a great ride last Thursday to share.

Age 69, weigh about 210, replaced right knee (TKR) in 2005. Anyways rode with my group Thursday. We leave at 7 AM, ride 21 MPH for 8 miles, then ride two or three laps around Speedway which is 6.25 miles.

Managed to hang on for first lap at 22 MPH and then second at 23.9 which did in 15:53! Point is getting stronger which am delighted about.

Total ride was 31 miles and averaged 20.5, fastest ever. Oh, also pulled twice. We can do it!

Did 2 miles on my 1988 Park Pre Hammer MB. Still in pain from my crash over 3 years ago. Porked up to 214 pounds. Finally able to do a long walk without my hands killing me. Walk 2 miles, MB 2 miles. Going to start selling off my road bikes. The Torelli is first to go, then the Bianchi, may never ride a road bike again.

Me here too. 66 soon. . .too bloody soon! But I can still ride round the hills where I live, and enjoy being passed by athletic ladies who dance very nicely on them pedals. . .and give me a condescending wave as they fly by!

I've had a few slow months having been pretty busy with other stuff. I've got 5-6 weeks to shape up for my 69 mile ride-your-age-ride. Last year I did 70 miles with 5000' of climbing and I refuse to backslide. The one thing I have going for me is I have mysteriously dropped 20+ lbs since then which will really help with the climbing, but I've got to sneak in a few 50+ mile training rides. I usually get up by 0500 and I've accelerated my morning schedule to get out of the house by 0700 to ride: coffee/breakfast, feed the horses, feed the dog, ride. It's still a bit dark at 0700, but I can be on the bike NLT 0715.
