this shop is still going and hosts swap meets regularly in its parking lot.
purchased a mystery italian at one of them some years back...
the (415) telephone area code for the shop changed to (510) in 1991 while location stayed the same.

It was a spacer, The Bike was in ok shape except the seatpost was stuck and when the PO tried removing it it actually tore the seatpost tubing at the slit .
Thanks for the year approx. I received it for free and was gonna clean it up and donate it to the Local CO-OP as it was too small for me.

That's cool. Would it have been back in the 70's you were there? I believe they're still in Business.

Mid 80s. The owner's name was Gordon and his wife was a judge for Sonoma County. Gordon built my first set of tubular wheels - Super Record hubs with the oil hole cover and GP4 rims. The main mechanic's name was Barry and he used to ride with me once in a while - showed me all the good roads. I think actually they merged with Dave's Bike Sport to become NorCal Bike Sport... so they still exist in name but just as kind of a legacy.

@DiabloScott - thanks for the history. I looked them up on line when I first bought the bike and there was a photo of the current owner, who looked youngish to me, so figured it had been sold by the original folks.
I love the sticker and the history. Makes me know that my bike had a life prior to moving in with me and that it was ridden and loved.

Dave Walters was a customer of mine when I was a sales rep in the 80's. Real great guy, on my route I'd stop by early, ride with him and whatever group was going that day, then shower at his shop. I've been trying to track him down, I knew he sold he shop. His daughter Trish rode on the 7-11 team for awhile, I believe.

Here's an article about the shop:

Sorry to derail the thread - I'll take a photo of my California Pedaler sticker tonight.

Newsflash - Google is dumping Picasa... I need to learn a new photo management system again. Still haven't figured out how it's going to affect the photos on my blog.
Anyway - these folks are still in business and still use the same logo as this one on my 1990 bike... but I don't know if they're still putting stickers on bikes. Also, I didn't realize it was this dirty until I saw it blown up the size of my monitor.

Machine Age,
Do you know if this Bud's has any connection to the Bud's Tandem Shop?
Did you perhaps attend one of the Claremont colleges?

I bought my frame (the one w/the Bud's sticker) from a private seller in the area a few years ago.
Claremont colleges were the top pick of my high school counselor, whose advice I totally ignored by going to UCLA.

No doubt it does...Bill McCready bought the shop from the eponymous Bud and sold a lot of tandems there, then went on to start Santana Cycles.
