I just picked up a used set of Specialized Comp from st. I ride S-Works road shoes so they are a similar fit.

I used SIDI's for 3 years. They actually weren't all that comfortable even though I had great luck with the same model road shoe. Switched to S-Works (grassroots deal) and they seem to work great so far. Tell you in Feb next year though.

In general unlike a dedicated riding shoe a super stiff sole isn't really what you want for cross. You do have to spend quite a bit of time running and jumping in them. Best thing is trying them on and then being able to stand around in them at the shop while talking about other stuff. The longer you sit in them the more you will be able to tell if they're going to end up hurting you when OFF the bike (something they aren't necessarily designed for).

I'm an engineer and I totally agree with your assessment of the typical response. They cut each other's throats and allow Big Business to bloat the State engineering schools via lobbying and thus create a lot of "warm bodies" and dilute the quality of the "product". Big Business does this to keep engineering labor costs down. If engineers only followed the MD model they would be paid a hell of a lot more for what they do. The problem is that the vast majority think like the guy you portrayed. By and large engineers are idiots.

got my DMT and Shimano shoes today. The shimano in 43 was a bit narrow, and the DMT in 43.5 seems good, but there's some space between my foot and the shoe. I wonder if i should try the 43 instead, but then, it could also be too narrow.

Love my Mavics. Very comfortable. Size 12 with a wide forefoot if that helps.

I was right next to one while driving home. Saw a flash and heard the crack just behind me. My right arm got all tingly. I wonder how close it was.

I have some of the Shimano mtb shoes that look like deck shoes. They are tough and protect the feet well and are o.k. to walk uphill in. I also have some PIs with a very stiff sole and they're fine on the bike but your heels can pull out when walking up steeps.
I hear Five-10 now makes some spd shoes and they're supposed to be great.

I forgot to mention the deck shoe looking things don't have holes up front to screw in a mud cleat.

We used to have a big and old dogwood tree in my back yard. It grew about 15 feet away from the house. I was in the "master" bedroom that was the closest room to the house when the lightning strike hit the tree. My Lord that was loud!

I have had a few closer strikes. The "hair standing up" before the strike is really scary because it is looking for you to connect to ground.

Experienced that today and at just the right time too because it was uncomfortable riding weather. When I got to the George Washington Bridge (connects NY and NJ) the sky was very dark to the north, but fortunately for me I would be heading south once I crossed the bridge. I had a tailwind riding north to the bridge and then the wind shifted so I had a tailwind heading south in which made it a pretty fun ride. The rain came down 5 minutes after I got home.

New SRM is bedding in and my HR strap decided to transmit 200+ sitting on the bench. It's been a mahhhhhhhhvelous afternoon.

Plus my in laws are staying with us in a box filled house. I love em but they are TV junkies...non stop TV TV TV.

I'm more of a quiet sort. I can drive for three hours without the radio even on. So endless sitcoms, The View, and soap operas are pretty much a cheese grater on my soul.

Agreed. I work at a hospital and the patients usually are watching TV to kill the hours in their room. Over the past year I've seen more soap operas, fake Judge shows, and daytime news than I've ever wanted to.

Somebody ran a weed wacker through the control wires for my AC unit. Reconnecting the wires didn't fix it so off to Google I went. I quickly learned that a 120/24 transformer in the furnace had likely blown. My lunch ride went like this...

I needed to go to the HVAC supply shop so I hopped on the bike and rode hard SST to an industrial/rough area of town. I showed up in full kit (thought I was going to race a local series this evening so that's all I had), walked through the door carrying my bike, and found myself amongst a room full of stereotypicals. Don, the gently older man I had spoken to on the phone, was clearly taken aback by my appearance. An easy talker on the phone, he was now choking on his words. The scene was funny enough that I thought he might actually be on the verge of kicking me out. After the transaction I chuckled numerous times while en-route back to the office.

It's no wonder you don't like me. I've had to pluck my eyebrows since high school. Now it it includes my ears, nose, and nostrils. The only place hair doesn't seem to grow is on my head.
