Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

There is a fire road here which climbs up the mountain to 4000 feet. It's mostly paved and lots of people walk on it. There are places along the road with large groups of beehives and today the beekeepers were giving away jars of honey to everyone who came by. They handed me 2 jars and I stuck them in my Camelbak. Gonna go try the honey now.

I’ve been thinking the same thing for the past couple of years. Riding a bike for a year should be prerequisite to getting a driver’s license.

While we're at it, let's make everyone work retail for a time.

Still no power. I may have to fire up the generator so the food in the fridge and freezer does not spoil.

Auto-start: I only know when I’ve lost power when my neighbor complains about my gen set making too much noise.

disclaimer: I hear it, too. The darn thing is loud!

This is a decent generator but a hand me down from my dad when they got an in-Line natural gas backup generator. It’s a solid unit but pull start. I did not bother with the hassle of running it last night but still no power so it’s running now. I had to show daughter #2 how to add gasoline since I am off to work soon and I have no idea how quickly this thing goes through gas.

Here she is. I don’t know much about generators but would guess it’s tiagra or 105 level.

I had one that I had to manually start and plug in to the house, throw the transfer switch, etc. at my last house. After starting that thing in the snow and rain in the middle of the night and then buying gasoline, I decided to go all in at my new house. Works great but we never seem to lose power here.Still, a flooded basement or spoiled meat in a fridge is no fun at all and I've had both of those before.

Mine at my old house was slightly bigger, 5500 watts. It ran the sump pump, furnace, fridge, and our command center which was the kitchen with lights, tv, etc. and even quick microwave usage. The worst was keeping enough gas around for prolonged usage.

We got an electrician to wire several critical circuits so I just start generator, plug in heavy duty cable, and throw a few switches. My hope is we get regular power back soon but there are a lot of outages so it may be awhile.

Power company website states expect restoration by June 6th 11PM. That’s a long time to wait.
