I tried running some 25 Pana racers on mine. Had issues with the rear brake bridge so back to the 23s.

So sounds like clearances got tighter on the later models, because my '86 is running 25's 'Irish Style': Plenty 'O Room.
Might even be space for 28's in there...

And we'd be glad to have you.
I've got a guy working on it.
Same design, but we may not be able to use Wolber, Cinelli, etc.
We're trying to use the Centurion model logos where we can:
Ironman (in the logo)
Lemans RS
Elite RS
Pro Tour
Semi Pro
Comp TA
Turbo
Prestige
Facet
It all depends on space.

I guess a lot of the companies were transitioning from frames that would take both 27s and 700s to frames that were specific to each size. Often just the components is was separated racing from touring.

For those who wondered if you can go Campy on an Ironman...
For those who find just a frame....
This one was $85 on eBay, beat all to heck, the red/grey '85 and boy, I wish it had been in decent shape.
Still, a powdercoat and decal job later, a little bit of black and yellow, and it was a nice riding bike. I moved it on to a BF member.
I actually think it's been posted here, sans decals...
27.2 seatpost, not supposed to fit. Chinese saddle/wrap came in a package deal for $19.
The headset is a 6500, decals from VeloCals. Those are Look A3.1 Ironman pedals, by the way.

Probably more about the Ironman name than Dave Scott's, but there may have been a charge for either or both, eh? We've seen other names for the European market, but otherwise it looks pretty much the same. seypat's Asian market version has a lugged fork. Neat to see different ways they were sent out.

I bike, but don't consider myself a biker. I run,but don't consider myself a runner. I swim and definitely Do Not consider myself a swimmer. But I do consider myself a triathlete (You know master of none).
In 1988 I had a beautiful cobalt blue treviso pinarello with chrome forks and a drive side chrome chain stay. Spec'd with dura ace where it counted (read) anything that rotated. It was 53 cm with SL tubing. And I installed the original scott dh bars, original white look pedals, and original 6 speed grip shift. Funny back then I felt like an outsider in the bike club rides. I had sleeve less jerseys, multi color shorts, those crazy handlebars, and all I wanted to do was hammer. No offense intended to all the bikers here now, but those bikers in the 80s were snooty and not that acceptable to change.(Nothing like the great group of guys we have here) Fortunately Greg Lemond changed all that and cycling in general. Anyway, I broke an hour once in a 40k on that bike in a triathlon . But generally I was always under 1hr 5 min. And that's what I intend to do with this bike. After I complete an Ironman in May 2016. I'm gonna continue racing at least once a month and see how fast I can go on this 88 Purple Haze Ironman I've named Voodoo Chile (child).
I bought this as a frame and it came with the original 6400 headset which I overhauled, and reinstalled. Except for the 105 white brake levers It has all 6400 tri color group swapped from my 88 yellow fade master. The bottom bracket was overhauled and installed at the LBS. I then overhauled the hubs. I was hesitant to post a pic as I'm only halfway done. It's rideable /raceable but I'm not sure I'm keeping white saddle, white wrap, white cable housing, I may change it to black, yellow, or even purple . Also definitely getting grip shift aero bar 8 speed shifters. There's a break in the weather today so hopefully going for its maiden voyage. What yall think? Laterz.
Sidenote: Lighting in this pic makes it look duller than it actually is.

Very nice tex , good luck on the ride . Are those 6400 tri color brake calipers ?

No those are shimano 105 brake levers. I didn't use the original black 6400 levers because I was trying to keep the continuity of the white bar tape. But I could change to black later.

Very nice texaspandj! I have a set of the same tri bars just waiting for me to find my first Ironman frame to buildup. I'm hoping for a tall Miami Vice.

Black would be nice , but for me right now I'm into sliver . In fact my bronze calipers and levers are looking out of place .

Looks fast sitting still. Cassette looks business-like. You may be able to find a mount for those bars on which to put the DT shifters.
My Ironman tri-bike had one, it only required a small hole and worked great. Profile Design made it. Great work on a great frame for hurting plastic.

So I want to change my 7 speed to 8 speed, but not sure which one I need. First a pic of my 7 speed cassette then 8 speed uni glide cassette and finally 8 speed hyper glide cassette . I'm really not sure. Maybe one of you Ironman gear heads on this thread will be able to help a brother out. Thanks.

I'm not familiar with cassettes. I believe my 88 Ironman Master has a UG cassette, but I'm not certain. In the ironman information thread it's listed as a HG cassette. I'm trying to convert 7 speed to 8 speed. I need to know which cassette to purchase. Check out Previous post. A pic assist would be appreciated. Thanks.

Unfortunately, they don't make uniglide cassettes and cogs anymore, so you're relegated to getting them from secondary sources like Ebay, Craigslist or Loose Screws.
One option is to replace the original freehub body on your hub with a hyperglide one, in order to get 8 speeds. I've never done this (I think RT has mentioned doing this though). I suspect going from 7 to 8 speeds may require re-dishing your wheel. Another option is to spring for a hub or wheel with an 8 speed hyperglide freehub.

Or, buy any Shimano road 9 or 10 speed freehub for about $30, then install it on your hub shell. should be able to use the original axle because you only need a few mm exposed on each end. Re-dish the wheel and then you can install any 8/9/10 speed HG cassette - that's another $30-50. Use your existing shifters if you're OK with friction, or buy shifters -$50-$70- that match the number of cogs on the cassette. So total cost likely to be $130 or so depending on what kind of deals you can get on parts, more if you have to pay for labor. Strangely enough, might be cheapest to do this with 10 speed based on current prices.
Swapping the freehub isn't too hard, you just need the right size hex driver and some patience. Also a good time to clean and regrease the bearings since you have to take them out when you remove the axle and freehub.
And at the end of the day, still looks like Tricolor except for the indexed shifters. Stealth!
