In the UK cab drivers are reputed to encourage the destruction of these bike schemes for obvious reasons.

Fantastic weather here in the PNW; time to pay a final visit to Mt. Rainier National Park. I started my ride this morning at the White River Ranger station, climbing back out of the park, I go up Cayuse Pass and head east twords Chinook Pass

The ride up to Chinook Pass is quiet today. Not many cars

My whole Concord, NC area is gearing-up for the NASCAR Roval 400 this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway - which is literally right down the road from here.

Great pics, all. @northbend, you (along with @scozim and all the other pnw riders, heck let's include the entire left coast too) have been an inspiration to us all.
We've been away on vacation so not much riding. But today we took the tandem out for 43.1 miles. No pics, but honest it really did happen anyway.

A Dreary Day, Saved
.
At least it wasn't raining. That's forecast for tomorrow. Today it was gray and cold, 43°F when I left the house. But I dressed warmly and rode my single-speed Scorcher, so I generated plenty of heat.
Such a nice, simple view from the cockpit.
There was some kind of event at the Harriet Island Pavilion, where the riverboats dock. Lots of folks milling around, so I had to keep my camera angles close and tight.
I never tire of the vista from here.
Soon the "Betsey Northrup" party-barge was underway, driven by "Ugh the Tug". It's always nice when you can get one of these boats in the background of a shot.
One last glamour shot to show off those cool, slack angles. I love this bike.

@northbend (and you other WA folks), you reinforce the idea that I'd love to live and ride there.
Yesterday, my wife and I wanted to take a ride, but working on the house took most of our time. We decided to combine our riding plan with our movie going plan. We were in the country, and the sun was going to set right before the movie started. We thought about it carefully and decided to do it. It's only four miles each way, but it's all on country roads, and we don't normally ride them after dark. We had good headlights and taillights, and it went fine. In fact, it was great.
Here is the charming little town of Rosendale, where the movie theater, right at around sunset time.

I finally was able to find some free time to get my C&V '85 Fuji out and go for a nice, quick 'n easy, 17.3 mile out 'n back ride along River Rd. Besides all the rain we've had recently (Richmond, VA got spared by Hurricane Florence), we did get some of the backlash from it and had rainstorms for days and days on end.
Anyway, here is the simple map layout from that site MapMyRide showing the 17.30 mile out 'n back ride.
So peaceful... I assume a lot of people were in church this morning and River Rd was almost deserted!!
Here's a shot from the side of the road that always makes me chuckle... "Lower Tuckahoe"? But yet I always wonder, "where is Upper Tuckahoe?" ha ha ha...

It had been several weeks since I had a chance to get out, so I just did an easy 17 mile ride on the '74 Motobecane Grand Touring today with the intent of focusing on the scenery rather than maintaining an average speed. It was a great decision.

@cooperryder , awesome city pictures! That vertical one with the "The Majestic" sign is fantastic!
I rode my Schwinn up to Scottsdale yesterday to meet a friend and hike Piestewa Peak together. It's the second-highest in the metro area, rising about 1,500 feet above the surrounding landscape. I didn't get any pictures of the bike, since it was dark on the way out, and I was in a hurry to get out of the heat on the way back, but it was a great hike.
I usually hike with my dogs, but dogs aren't allowed on this trail, so I'd never done it before. It's definitely not a hike for anyone seeking solitude in nature. Not on a Saturday morning, at least.
The summit was packed with fellow hikers, including two tour buses full of athletes wearing Arizona Diamondbacks shirts. For all I know, it was the actual baseball team. Hard to tell without the hats.
It's selfie central up there.
We hiked slow so my buddy could keep up, so it was close to 9:30 when we got back to the bottom. The sun was out in force, working towards the day's high of 102°. It'll be cooler next week. Someone pointed out to me this morning that we've been saying that for a month. I have my fingers crossed that it'll be true this time.
I still can't believe I live in a place where you can ride a bike to scenery like this.

This morning my sweetie plopped me on the Masi (okay, the bike was my choice) and shoved me out the door. The target destination was the Assabet River Rail Trail. First, Waltham to the ARRT's northern terminus in South Acton.
I rode the ARRT down to its end at the Assabet Wildlife Sanctuary in Maynard.
Then I followed a packed dirt road along the river.
After about 2 miles I discovered (surprise!) an airfield with some sort of fly-in happening.
I tried going further but the road got muddy and I was on 23mm sew-ups.
Spotted this unusual sign in Acton on the return. A cute little beast that is in fact quite vicious, and deadly to chickens and other small edible animals!
It was a great day up until the little collision I had on the MM. This little stinging thing and I had a run-in. I'm sure he came out worse but only after he got under my sunglasses and stung my face, seemingly a few times, right below my right lower eyelid. Um, it still hurts but fortunately I'm not allergic to much (as long as it isn't seafood related). Also fortunately I has some cans of liquid pain killer in the fridge.
The day ended with 54.75 miles.

Secondly, I feel your pain! I got stung in the right temple by a bee at the start of the summer and it felt like someone beaned me with a baseball. I hope you're feeling better after a couple/three beers

I was hoping for a nice fall ride here, but it was still way too slick and muddy from recent rain. Something to look forward to once things dry out a bit.

I beat myself up today on a mountain bike ride with some friends today. 4,500 feet of climbing. The couch abandoned by the roadside was our first rest stop.
(No, we don't really drink Bud Light. The bottles were props, probably left by the same low-lifes who dumped the couch.)

I am indeed much better now, thank you. I've been stung twice while riding, both times on the Masi. Small sample size but verging on significant. Red bikes are not only faster but also more attractive to bees, it would seem.

@malcala622, what a beautiful family you have.
Yesterday I spent too much time driving a car. We got up too early, went from our upstate house to the church in Larchmont, NY where my wife had a choir substitute gig. She sings there from time to time. I attended the service to occupy the time. While the choir rehearsed, I took a walk to the beach. As luck has it, this beach is where my mother hung out as a kid, though she never showed it to me. It faces the Long Island Sound.
And as luck has it, my wife's gig is at the church my mother and aunt went to as kids. They're both gone now, but it's a good chance to think of them.
Then we drove from there to Fort Tryon Park, to the annual Medieval Faire, where my wife had another gig. I've been there enough, so I just dropped her off.
Then I drove around doing errands with the car. Driving in the city is so annoying. Average speed can be less than with a bike. One of my errands was to pick up the components for a pair of wheels I'm building for a fellow whom @Dan Burkhart referred to me. They're for an old Schwinn Twinn tandem. We're switching from 597mm wheels to 590. The rear wheel has a big ol' Atom drum brake hub.
I drove back home and rode Citi Bike to join my wife and mother in law for dinner. Since driving is so bad for my body, I rode Citi Bike really hard, which is pretty uncomfortable on those bikes, but it was all I could do. After dinner, my wife and I rode Citi Bike back home. Each trip was only 3.5 miles, but something is better than nothing. The weather was lovely.
