Also, Campagnolo Veloce stuff was selling at about the same prices as Shimano 105 from the European sites. I've been using it for a few months now, and I'm impressed. To me, it's not good for the money, it's just plain good.

I agree, the lower end Campy stuff is pretty decent.

I like Veloce, but I also like Centaur.

All I've had to do with the Centaur groupset on my Alu Cross is take a little cable stretch out in the last two years of use.

Clean the drivetrain, add a little NFS and keep riding.

I could see a new cassette and chain in the fall, but that's about it.

some places will sell you just the 5800 "gear kit" - then you can buy a different crank with it. probably more expensive that way but less trouble than having to ebay a crank you don't like.

Ribble will sell you each piece individually.

Fwiw I actually don't mind the cranksets on modern framesets.

For example, I think they would look great on a CAAD12. I wonder though, if the new Cannondale crank is proprietary?

Took this for its maiden voyage today. Very pleased with the ride. I'm not entirely convinced by the black gruppo, but it was a good deal and fit the budget.

1984 Batavus Professional frame (the internet tells me it's Columbus SL, but it only has a generic Columbus sticker on it. If anyone has any more precise information I'd be happy to hear it);
Campagnolo Veloce 10 speed groupset;
Campagnolo Khamsin wheels;
Deda seatpost, stem and bars;
Vittoria Rubino tires.

Nice. Not sure if I like the anti-gravity build better or not. Just can't decide.

That was a version that they made specifically for the Australian market.

Yeah, I must have tried twenty times to upload that pic and it always came out upside down. Then when it was finally straight the damn thumbnail thing was upside down!

Yes, I'm posting it a third time. Tough.

50s/60s Umberto Dei gaspipe frame, powder coated to a lovely baby pink. Not sure of the wheelset, got it really, really cheap at a swap. Tubulars and Campy 10 is all I need to know. Cinelli 1a stem and GdI bars. Veloce 10 levers and RD. Single ring up front, don't need to shift up front, cheap cranks. Universal 39s for brakes. Zoncolan seat. ANd yes, those are pink Speedplays. Anyone know what removes the ink off of a Kalloy post?

Acetone should remove ink. Don't leave it on long it could also remove the clear coat. I picked up a gt bmx that a kid decided to paint 1/3 of it with sharpie it cleaned right up

Excellent. One of Mary Elizabeth's caps would be about perfect with that beauty.

For the seatpost, at least Uno is an Italian one. Acetone works fine, as the man said.

Some highlights
Scram Red 22 11 speed drive train and brakes.
HED Jet 4's converted to 11speed hub

How it came to me:

I really like the old french bikes with the new touch. I own a gitane I wanted to sell but this post may have saved her. Could somebody help me with some questions. My gitane champion du monde 75 has a french bottom bracket. I have a 6401 8 spd group. Can I get a bottom bracket that fits the frame and my shimano 600?
Plan b: Leave the stronglight 93 crank and mafac brakes an install the 600 shiftes and derailleurs. Then I have a new poblem, me new pedals doest fit the crank (frenh old thread).

Do I miss othr possibly problems? (I know I need to adapt th frame to 130) thank you for this fantastic thread

The bottom bracket is GXP English thread... FYI the instructions called out shims for the frames BB width... Didn't work with them in. I removed both and works great.
