Nice, job, very underappreciated frameset.

After a couple of rides with around 40 miles on this bike, I flat out love it. The frame is at least as responsive as my Tommasini SLX frame, and it's a hair lighter as well. And the franken-drivetrain is just fantastic.

I very much dig this

The front derailleur is IRD alpina and the crank is a sugino xd-600 so I still have tall enough gears I can push on downhills or when I have tailwinds. I also did a stem swap and put a Nitto Technomic Deluxe in place of the longer/shorter Italian stem that was on there and my hands don't hurt anymore so I'm pretty pleased with all the changes I've made to this bike. It's served me well so far this season, I've done 2 200K brevets on it and a couple metric centuries as well. I'm probably gonna use it for a 300km next week. I also put my magnesium bmx pedals on this bike since I can't handle the clipless thing.

My first attempt at a modern build on 'vintage' frame.

A bit of a parts bin mixture. Came with original Sante headset. Responded to a local CL add for the period correct wheelset (Dura-Ace hubset with Mavic rims), and the seller also happened to have a Sante Breakset, go figure. The rest of the drive train is 8-spd triple, Shimano 2300 (I know, everyone else on here has 105+, but it's what I had). I think the stem/handlebars are from my '91 Schwinn LeTour.

These are awesome frames!

Vision- I wanted all American products on this build. I didn't say manufactured in the US ! I came close except for - Italian 3T stem (aesthetics) Prologo seat (same seat on my carbon and works for me), Japanese headset - Tange Seiki (I liked the clean look / price), German tires (I had them!)

Some highlights
Scram Red 22 11 speed drive train and brakes.
HED Jet 4's converted to 11speed hub
Rear frame cold set to 130mm

Love it. Great job on the build.

Thanks! It's such a great rider, I wish I'd got the taller stem last year though, improving the fit has been such a revalation to me.

My McLean is almost done. Tiagra brifters and rear derailleur. The front derailleur is an Ultegra, and maybe that's why the shifter doesn't work. It doesn't pull enough cable. Any hints are appreciated. As you can see, I installed a downtube shifter to work the front derailleur, which doesn't suck all that much.

I have been stalking this thread for a while. It is the best collection of retro bikes on the net.

Here is an old pic of my modern retro - I need to take some good pics to post.

It is a late eighties Pinarello Montello with Campag Athena and I love it.

You probably have a double left STI but the crank's a triple. Sometimes you can kludge a triple to work on a double but rarely the other way round. Ebay's full of orphan left shifters or you can likely arrange a trade. I'm really impressed with the Shimano Claris shifters for the money...about $110-120 for a set. The Claris grey is a very close to the old 6400 Ultegra grey.

@brandon98, thanks for the clue. My mistake is probably using a double FD. I'll check to see if I did.

Would love to see more pictures, especially a straight-on driveside, if possible. I have the same bike in blue.

Lots of great bikes posted lately!

First 50 miles with the Clement Strada today, and I really like them. Seeing as how I've been using 23c nearly all my life it's difficult to know how much of the difference is just the tyre size (these are 25c), and how much is the specific tyre, but it's a very comfortable ride.

And that Pinarello is immaculate. If I had any amount of chrome on the frame I'd definitely want to go down the silver group set and rims route.

Incredible shot. I love the white hoods. Are those H Plus Son rims? I have a friend with those on his fixed gear, and they are just as stunning in person. Are the wheels a custom build or did you get them pre-built?

Why didn't you just lean the bike against that old car? (Just kidding, both the Jaguar owner and I would have shot you for that!)

There is just something sexy about a chrome fork and stays, especially in red

I found this Bridgestone 500 last week chained to a mailbox with a FS sign (I paid for it, there was little devil on my shoulder for a split second). Modernized it but left the brakes and Suntour Cyclone FD alone. It rides really nice.
