41 miles at a pretty pokey pace.......perfect day to ride but just wasn't into it. Probably time to break out the golf clubs.

Rode 27.8 miles this afternoon, enjoying the early fall temps while they are here.

John, congratulations to your wife, that is quite an accomplishment for her.

Thirteen miles before work on a beautiful fall morning. Not very fast, but out in the fresh air!

I use a road bike with compact crank (50/34) and an 11/28 cassette. Where I've been riding this summer I've really wanted an even lower gear a few times. I also have a lot of wonderful gravel roads that make especially good connectors to other good roads, so I'm looking at a bike that will handle the gravel a little better. I can ride on hard-packed gravel OK on my current bike, but it's hard to keep traction when it gets steep. I'm looking forward to seeing the new Specialized Diverge, that can take 700/32c tires and will take an 11/32 cassette.

Took off on a short ride this morning and boy was it short!

Came to the first hill, got up out of the saddle and it felt like the whole back end collapsed. I ended up on the floor with a banged knee and sore shoulder. It seems the derallieur fractured, came right off the frame and lodged into the wheel, bending spokes and buckling the wheel. It all happened in a split second. Had I not been off the seat I would have survived it

Anyway, no serious long term physical damage I don't think. But the bike looks a bit sick -

I'm 62, been biking since labor day, returning to pedaling after a 15+ year hiatus. I'm in training for a long tour of undetermined destination. Average speed was 13.2 mph yesterday on 22.7 miles. Today I clocked the most mileage yet, 36.67 miles, 12.7 mph average speed. I know that's slow by current and yesteryear's standards, but I'm breaking in my hybrid Safari touring(?) bike which sports 28x1.6" tires, front and rear racks, fenders and handlebar bag, estimated at 33 lbs. Temperature was 80+ with low humidity, and farmers are hurrying to harvest their corn before the next rain. I kept running into bugs.

Bruised, you have to warn us before you show pictures of carnage and mangled things, please. Seeing a wounded, and possible permanently disabled bicycle is traumatic and just down right sickening. Jeese, a slasher flick wanna be right here in the 50+

I'm just glad you weren't badly hurt when it went south in the RD department, sounds like it was painful to me, heal up well.

I'm looking at that busted derailleur pic and wondering which piece actually broke. Which is to say, not knowing that particular derailleur I can't tell whether it is mounted with a claw which broke or if the dropout's mounting hanger broke off the frame. Either way, it's good to hear you weren't permanently injured.

Am I the only nut that rides in the rain?
This past weekend there was a strange, wet substance falling from the sky. I think it was imported from Seattle.
(As you can tell it doesn't rain much in Western Nevada.)

I have a new (to me) toy (2012 Sirrus) and was bound and determined to ride Sunday, rain or no. (In the Pacific Northwest they would probably call it a heavy drizzle). But after a while it became miserable and I cut it short to only 7 miles. Took me about 40 minutes to clean the road grit off the bike and the back of my cycling jacket (and pants) was literally soaked with road grit. Can you spell "Duh"?

Noop.

After an unusually dry early to mid-September we've had rain for the past several days and I've commuted through it. Yesterday I expected drive for several reasons, only one of which was the rain, but after driving for 15 minutes and going only a mile I turned around, drove home, and got my bike. Today I had to make a quick trip to the dentist before work, then had a flat partway to work. Fixing a wet tire isn't so much fun, but I finally made it to the office.

I'll finish a ride in the rain, but I don't like to start them in the rain. I might if I was stir crazy.

Main reason is that drivers turn double stupid when it rains, and also that grit is bad for components, bearing and chain.

Nice morning for a bike ride with temps in the 70's but with humidity in the mid 80% range. Got in a nice 38 miles this morning, 8 of them with the wife after lapping her. Waiting for the loggers to come pick up their equipment so they can open the north loop at the MUP. Going back and forth on the same stretch of the MUP is getting boring. Now if only the flooding would go away!

Another nut here, unless its really hard rain or lightning and thunder, I'm going to ride when its time. I have the kit to ride in the wet so its no big deal to me.

I won't melt, trust me on this one.

Rode 25.1 miles this afternoon, still humid out but the cooler weather is headed here by tomorrow evening. Its supposed to be in the mid 40's Saturday night, yessssss

Thanks guys, I don't feel like such an idiot. Knowing I'm going to ride in the morning is what gets this tired old body outta' bed. Fortunately it doesn't rain that much here, but it does get cold. I can handle that.
I ride solo most of the time but did find a group to ride with Wed. Nice 25 mile moderate paced ride on the Sirrus Sport (what a beautiful bike) up a couple of fairly steep hills (I'm not best friends with gravity). No rain that day, just a little wind (I'm not fond if anything over 6mph either). Hopefully they'll ride again next Wed and I'll get some distance riding on the Roubaix.
