April 27, 30+ miles today, summer is here, I was sweating again today, it was another beautiful Florida day, sunny low 80* F, and a 18mph head wind on the 15 mile return trip kicked my back side again. It was just good to be out side and turning the cranks. The days are starting to get a lot warmer here in FL.

30.9 miles today
727.9 miles this month
2565 miles this year
79 ride days TY vs 72 ride days LY
4934 miles needed to hit 2010 goal (7500 miles)
I am @ 34% of goal. I need to be @ 33.3% (2500 miles) by the end of April
678 miles ahead of this date last year

The wife mentioned that we needed some supplies from the grociery accros the river from us. I took that chore on as an excuse to take a ride (not that I ever really need one).

Though the store is only a couple miles away at the most I managed to crank out a little over 10.5 miles on the Volae Tour in the 38*, 20mph winds. It was a fun little errand on a fun little bike.

The normal 30 mile Tuesday club ride, but the few other B group riders who came were late, so I rode alone. What made today's ride different was the ridiculous crosswind. It had to have been every bit of the forecasted 25mph and probably more. It was ever so slightly behind me on the way out and slightly in my face on the way back. I managed to get close to my usual time and got in about 10 minutes before the awful wind turned into a rain storm.

Rode the Westlake Training Race tonight with big boy's in the "A" race. It was clear, 48 degrees and winds around 15 mph. A break got away on lap 6 or 7, so the 38 mile race was fairly tame for the peleton @ 24.7 mph ave.

16 mile commute/errand run, then stopped into the LBS and had them add a set of "full fenders" to the Frankenbrid, looks great and should keep a bit more water/crud off me than my "chrome splash guards" were capable of. 60F but still a !@#$%^&* cold wind, I'm really tired of the WIND and they say it will hit 65 to 70 mph. tommorow after 11 AM. Gads, it's a good thing I'm a Clydesdale rider, otherwise, I'd have to add "rocks" to my pockets!!

Finally Riding Again

Hooray

Got to go for a ride tonight. A short 5 miles and it felt good. For the last three weeks my back has been on another one of it's "I want to make you suffer" periods.

Lot of pain in the L4/5 area. It's been acting up for years on and off so I'm used to it and it clears up with some rest and a few tricks I learned from a PT I went to some years back. I've done the shots a few times and they work good for me. It's been 4 years since the last round of shots, so I'm probably due for another series. I could actually ride but going over any rough pavement felt like someone jamming a knife in the spine. No fun there.

On the plus side, I've had time to rest and sit down to clean and polish most of the parts on a 82 FUJI Supreme 12 speed I'm restoring. Have a look, as you can see at least that's going well despite my semi-junk back.

The ride went good tonight so I'm getting back on tract now and working back into my daily rides. My back should be fully back up to snuff just about the time I get the FUJI done. Can't wait to ride some classic steel.

Yesterday, actually. 50 miles to a usual destination with the club. Lincoln to Folsom CA for some pastry. This picture suggests it might have been a tough ride.

Had to get the annual safety inspection on the 2000 Buick. Drove it 4,300 miles last year.
Now for the oil change.
No bike ride today.

We weren't going to ride today, because of a forecast for rain, but 5 of us sneaked out anyway, dressed for the worst. We stopped about 19 miles in at a favorite coffee shop and it started to pour. We waited a few minutes and it all but stopped so we continued on, completing a short 30 miles in only occasional sprinkles. I'm trying to get my money's worth out of my rain jacket.

30.7 after-work ride today. It was 56F when I left and very windy. I didn't check wind speeds but they were strong and gusting. Most of the ride was either head wind or cross winds that really moved me around at times. I just plodded along saying it was good to be riding.
I got a little chilly near the end as well even with a long sleeve jersey with a Underarmor heat gear base layer. I did however only have bib shorts and no knee warmers.
With my head down riding I was checking out my bike and it is filthy! I need to wash it...tomorrow maybe.

wildlife count was 5 deer and 1 rabbit and several large birds of some sort.

I finally got my bike back from the shop. I just had to test it out. Works fine.
I did 6.812 miles. That's not bad for me. I'm trying to build myself up to do 10 miles.
That's with half a heart muscle. I was hoping to gain heart muscle tissue back and I'm doing zone training to strengthen it.

All I managed was about 6 miles according to the electronic readout. All on a stationary bike at the gym, so the mileage reading is meaningless. Why can't they put real bike saddles on those things? The monstrosities they use seem to have been designed for someone whose bottom could do with more pedaling and less sitting.

Club ride today. "B" ride, "A" group. 60F with a nice spring breeze (15 mph from the west.) Everyone except me took the shortcut home. Finished with 28 miles at a 20.0 mph average. I'm reminded why I hate doing this particular ride. The roads suck!!! The expansion joints were enough to ring my bike, and it's carbon!

Managed 45 miles yesterday, resting today for tomorrow's run. Had a little rain, sun and a lot of wind. The fragrances of all the different blossoming trees made for an unusually good smelling ride.
