Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Heh. That thought ran through my mind, too. My brother has a couple of them, but I'm not sure how easy it would be to get an accurate and round rim on it. That and the interior might be a little rough and hold on to some coffee grounds.

Hell, if we're going to go the DIY route, turning one out of wood would be interesting... not that I have a lathe, but hmmm....

Depending on what he has, I wouldn't think it would be a worry. Since I narrowed my TT bars, my Garmin mount won't fit between them, so that's on the agenda.

Sure, no problem. I can do you one for $35 + shipping and handling. Of course I then have to learn how to use a lathe or CNC machine. You don't mind if it is a bit rough do you?

WhyFi Far be it from me to comment on a fellow espresso aficionado’s accrual of more paraphernalia but I’ve looked at these, too, and struggled to see how to incorporate it into my system. I currently use a bottomless filter, tare it on the scale and fill till I get the dose I want.

But, like I say, in the search for the holy golden shot, acquiring more stuff is warranted.

Yeah, about that... so I kind of want a new single dose grinder like the Niche Zero, in which case the dosing cup would make more sense...

Then again, the Niche Zero comes with a similar dosing cup.

I also found myself looking - JUST LOOKING! - at some plumb-able, dual-boiler, rotary pump, PID controlled machines.

Oh, and FWIW, I found the bottomless portafilters to be a great learning tool/visual aid to help with even tamping, etc, but when I went back to a spouted portafilter, I felt like my shots got better. I assumed that it was the thermal mass and keeping things just a bit warmer until it hit the cup, etc. Thinking about it now, it may have also been the different basket sizes and resulting dose, but I'd have to revisit. Anyway, YMMV, obviously, but give it a whirl some time.

Chris Coffee (where I got my Anita) and Whole Latte Love (where I got the Mazzer). I haven't really looked at too many sellers beyond those two.

I’ve only used WLL because I bought my machine there and they’ve got me sucked in on rewards points. I’ve been looking at a new grinder. It never ends.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but you ain't getting that for less than $40 if you're only making one, even at the cheapest shops I know

Material alone is $50-$60 if you want it hogged out of a Ř2.5" x ~5" slug. 303 stainless in that diameter looks like it's going for about $12/inch.

I fully recommend getting yourself a wood lathe. Could probably go down the same metallurgical rabbit hole with your turning tools as you could with your kitchen knives

Leave it at the office!

There are, of course, reasonably priced, slow-boat-from-China, pieces available, but... save $25 and wait a month for a 3 ounce item to be shipped from the other side of the world? Nah. Oh well, back burner.

We’ve decided to paint almost every room since the prior owners were sort of slobs. Last night I removed some sort of textured wall paper in the master and applied the first coat of skim coat, sanded and did coat 2 this AM at 5.

later today is new floor in laundry room, wall patching and washing walls before I bust out the paintbrush.
