Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I sound like a fanboy, but these have been rock solid so far. Not Delta, but Keo is close. I'm not sure if these are subject to any discounts, but I know there's a 10% off if you sign up for email/first purchase.

Not to complain, but wouldn't I have to move the pedals every time I wanted to ride a different bike?

Today, emboldened by his tiny baking, he asked to bake full-sized chocolate chip cookies with his mom. She told him that they could after little sister's nap time, etc. Well, he got impatient and took it upon himself to get out the ingredients. Then he decided to measure them out while still waiting. And then, why not mix 'em up? By the time my wife showed up, he had balls of cookie dough on the baking sheets, waiting to go in to the pre-heated oven.

And the cookies? Pretty damn good. If this continues, I may have been a little hasty in celebrating my winter austerity.
We got one of my daughters a baking kit for her birthday in November and followed it up with a cake decorating kit at Christmas. She does the same stuff with cupcakes and it’s brutal

At first I thought I'd just do a Z1-Z2 day, after my Week Of Unreal Climbing. But then I got a burr under my saddle and scored a PR on the Volcano Circuit, then decided to try the Ramp Test in Erg Mode again. This time it worked a lot better - I avoided the death spiral, and got a result 25 watts higher than last time! Then, I was tooling around Watopia for the next 15 minutes, trying to decide whether to do a Workout, or jump to one of the other worlds, when suddenly....

Nothing. Literally nothing, because the TV and my laptop went black, the music stopped, the 'On/Off' switch on the laptop was dark. Total, instantaneous crash with no warning. No frame rate problems, no glitches. Just, black and silent.

Unplugged all the peripherals and restarted the computer, which seemed perfectly fine. Checked 'my.zwift.com' - nothing. No new data since Friday. Checked Strava - same.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess it was one of those "Zwift Crashes". Most of an hour's data, lost! The HR data for the Ramp Test, gone!

So I plugged the TV and the Ant Stick back in, restarted Zwift, restarted the music, and went to Innsbruck, figuring to ride in the town while deciding whether to do the climb again, BUT apparently I chose "UCI Short Lap" instead of Innsbruckring, and I figured, "What the hell?" SO I rode it again, having done it as Stage 2 of TdZ. Beat my time up the climb by 2 minutes. Beat my time for the whole lap by 3 1/2 minutes. Whole thing was about an hour, and left me pretty much spent.

Checked "my.zwift.com" again, and the firt hour was there, but only the minimum data - time, distance, elevation, calories. No route, no power data, no HR data. I had to enter what data there were into Strava manually. Better than nothing, I suppose.

I learned last night that Zwift runs locally, on your own computer, and that Zwift sends data on the 100 riders nearest you for your computer to render, so it seems like during the ride, all your data are on your own computer, NOT on Zwift's servers. So if you have a crash, all but the minimum data are gone. Makes me wonder if I need a better rig for Zwifting...............
Yes, Zwift does store and record data locally. If Zwift crashes, you can usually recover nearly all the data. It's been a while, but I think if you look in the Zwift folder on your laptop, and in a subfolder, you'll be able to find a *.fit file from the date in question. You can try loading that to Strava, or you might have to use one of the online fit file fixes to repair or trim the end as it was not "closed" properly.

Is having 3 double espressos within an hour of your cardiac doctor appointment a bad idea? Asking for a friend.

Thanks, I've heard good things about them. I worry a lot about Q because of my height/leg length but I'd still like to give them a try. I bet if I dig a little longer that I can find some data on how much Q is increased.

If your friend does this pretty much every morning, not a concern. Our bodies become tolerant to the blood pressure effects of caffeine with daily use.

If it's over the top, try not to do this again.

Experience tells me that he'll be OK but it did pass his mind that it may not be a smart thing to do.

I was recently given a pair of SPD-SL pedals. I quit using Look type pedals years ago after my wife started doing a lot of tandem touring. Anyway, I've been debating whether it would be worth it to buy some road shoes or pass the pedals along to someone else. It's another pedal related question that I need to dig in to.

Again - no perfect solution, but the pedals are probably the most sensible, which is Step 1. The full instructions are:

1) find a sensible way of getting power on your most performance-oriented bike.
2) do it
3) the rest will figure itself out, I promise you

Once you have power, you'll either want it all the time or you'll realize that it's not in your personality to obsess about it each and every ride. With the former, you'll either ride the bike with PM almost exclusively or you won't mind the effort of moving the PM (until you buy more PMs for the other bikes ). With the latter, you'll be content with taking occasional rides unshackled from expectation or agenda.

I need to find a power solution for the Revolt. I don’t really want Keo cleats on a bike I’m going to ride in the mud and dirt. I had a slow motion crash BITD on SPDs that got packed with dirt and I couldn’t get out of either side before I fell over and would like to avoid a repeat if I can.

for the time being I’ll swap the Vectors, it’s about 3 mins to do, but long term I’d like something more like a MTB shoe on that bike.

I don't need that kind of immersion - too much potential for addiction, for me. Sleep would be the first thing to go.

Yeah, don't even bother unless you have a specific game in mind and you know that you don't have the power to run it adequately. I spent $400+ on my GPU and it's done nothing but live a life of leisure after the initial benchmarking.

I’m more interested in 4x strategy these days than anything, and there’s some older ones I’ve missed, may as well start there.

SPD-SL is the way to roll.
