Here’s your damned picture

It took me 22 miles of wandering and visiting 3 (nonexistent) motorcycle shops to find one about 3 miles from my house (red arrow).

Hope you’re satisfied, ya lazy gits!

Let’s see if this mission can not derail the thread: Impressions in concrete. As I was wandering around for ya lazy gits, I noticed lots of things that made impression in the wet concrete when bike paths were poured. Show me what you can find. Tire tracks, animal tracks, leaves, sticks, whatever you can find.

As Bartles and Jaymes would say, thank you for your support. I really didn't expect a motorcycle to be that difficult..

Your map brought back memories.. original Elitch Gardens.. the Mousetrap... the wretching stank of the rendering plant.. the California Zephyr.. thanks!

I was actually a bit north of all that. The Mousetrap (I-70/I-25 intersection) is actually rather tame compared to the mess that is the I-25/1-76/1-270/US36 spagetti bowl.

About the only smells that come from the area now are the Metro sewage plant and the Purina plant. My daughter used to go to Garden Place for elementary school which is nestled in the southeast corner of the Mousetrap. When she was going there, they could tell the weather by the odors. Fair weather give them widened from the west and they could smell the Keebler plant (no longer there). Bad weather was the Purina plant...still there.

Tracks

Detail. Looks like a cat. Imprint fossil from the Anthropocene.

I got help from my able assistant so she picked the mission.

Next Mission: Your bike with an animal warning sign, like a deer crossing.

Cool! We had a section of pavement on one of our trails that had rabbit, deer, fox and raccoon...all in about a 10 foot section. I did a ride as a captain for a blind student long ago and we stopped at that section so that she could feel the tracks. One of the coolest things I’ve ever done. Plus, the kid was an animal on the tandem. She wanted to be faster than any of the other students (all sighted) on the ride. I accommodated her wishes

If the above satisfies the mission requirements, how about the following as a next mission.

Mission: Your bike with something big and inflatable.

There's been no response in three weeks!

I must have made the challenge too hard. I thought it would be easy. My neighbors still had their big inflatable Christmas decorations in their yard.

Next Mission: Photo of somebody else on a bicycle that you encountered during a ride.

I think your timing was a bit off but I finally found a giant blowup. I’m claiming this one.

Next mission: (Upon approval) Something that will puncture a tire. Glass, road ‘gator (look it up), goatheads, dead porcupines, cactus, etc. No potholes.

Just for clarification...does it have to be something that’ll puncture a bicycle tire? A car/truck tire? Does it matter?

Probably doesn't count, because this was taken after my ride. I pulled these out of the tires in my velo. Roughly 2/3 of them came from the right front (tire closest to the shoulder).

Bicycle tire, although things that puncture car tires do a heck of a job on bicycle tires. I put a nail through both sides of a tire at the only uphill on a 10 mile fast off-pavement downhill. The uphill is hard enough without the flat costing me momentum a the bottom of the hill.

Nail and tire scrap.

Most of my flats are slow leaks that come from tire carcass wire. I generally stop and remove tire carcasses from the roadbed because they are embryonic flat tires.

I've had between 5-10 flats due to nails; they've all been on the rear. One went all the way through the rim. Good thing I still use tubes.

Next Mission: A dead-end sign.

We don't have actual "Dead End" signs here. This is how they do it locally:

Assuming this is acceptable.

Next mission: I'm sick of winter and cold. Your bike with a Palm tree. Bonus points for clear blue sky and extra bonus for a body of water.

It snowed last night. The palm trees didn't seem to mind much.

I won't claim this one as I don't think the photo meets the intent.

Palm Photo. Next: Motorized Migration

Palm trees, check. Water, check. Clear blue sky, partial credit?

There are snowbirds that migrate south for the winter. Let's go with a migratory object.

Next Mission: Your bike with a motor home. Extra credit if taken at an RV dealership.

Does it have to self-propelled?

A bicycle facility that is more than 20 years old. Bike path, bike rack, bike bridge...hell, I’ll even take a bike route sign...as long as it was made for bicycle use, I’ll take it. Providing something to prove the age is even better.

Bike Lane Shaped Object for Consideration

When I lived in Houston in 1992 I remember this abomination being installed and I remember using it:

I go by here very often and I take the lane.

Not just paint! Signs!

So you decide if this is acceptable. I couldn't find proof of age; just my memory. There was activity at this time and based on what I've found, this may have been an early "proof-of-concept" installation. Since the objective was to extract federal funding, it appears it worked.

I remember this lane being installed in 1992.

I'll consult my able assistant for a next mission recommendation in case I get cyccommute approval or 3 likes. If unacceptable then I've got a bridge that was installed about 20 years ago but my only proof dates to 2002.

Holy crap that's a travesty. TBF, there are still a few areas around here that still look like that. I'm pretty sure the ones I'm thinking of, they didn't actually do anything to widen, improve, or even repair the road. They just painted a white strip a couple feet from the curb and figured we could dodge the pot holes and debris.

Let's see what cyccommute thinks.

While the bike lane is unacceptable, it meets the parameters. Next mission is yours.

By the way, we have an extensive network of bike lanes and paths here in Denver. Many of them date to the 70s. Some have been rebuilt and some haven’t. Even the ones that haven’t been rebuilt aren’t in that bad of shape. One of ours was a response to massive floods that inundated parts of Denver in the middle of town. We started building the Platte River Greenway in 1974 and it now stretches from Brighton on the north to Chatfield Reservoir, a distance of 35 contiguous miles of off-street bike path. There are numerous feeders off the main path that offer equal amounts of off-street bike path. Long ago I did a century with only about 5 miles of street riding...and the system wasn’t nearly as extensive.

(Able assistant was consulted. I have a reliable mr_bill clause ready for Feb. 8th.)

Next Mission: Turkey, not otherwise specified.

(Since there may be new players, a "mr_bill clause" is a relaxation of the mission when it is proving too difficult to achieve.)
