Change of Tyre Type

I had the same problem. I updated a racing frame to be a hybrid, and the chunkier tyres plus wider wheels meant that I had to deflate the rear tyre to fit on. I had stretched the front and rear forks for the wider wheel axles, which contributed.

I downsized the wheel rims, and used a long reach Weinmann brake set. A 28" to a 700mm is only a drop of 5.5mm on the radius.

Hope this helps.

Nice! Here is my Meral of the same age:

On vacation in Liguria

Wonderful bikes! You know of the connection between Meral, Geliano and Cyfac?

Really nice build! I thought that frame was only around for 88 and 89 though. But that's going off catalogs and the website catalogs aren't always complete.

^^^Thank you ! I thought they were 87-88 , but I could be mistaken . I prefer frames that are more flashy , but it fits and the price was right (folks are correct, tall guys are cheap ! ) , gonna be a great back-up .

Oh. My. A 25" Prologue (my size) in my favorite color combo it came with. Beautiful! I have never seen a picture of this color and size, save for perhaps a 26" that was on ebay a few years ago. Still dreaming as it is a Grail Bike for me. I have a bit of heart ache for an older (but too small) '89 Tempo in dark blue-grey that I had three years ago--want another as it rode so very well. Your Prologue is even better. '80s high-end Schwinns, yes please!

^^^Well, thank you so much ! When I saw it pop up on Craigs, I knew it was a 25 incher . I read about others here who love their Prologues, so I am delighted ! Came with some Superbe Pro stuff that I sold to help fund the build. I like it a lot .

Being a 63-63cm rider myself, ive found that yes bikes are often cheap in our size...or expensive. It all just depends on how the seller views what they have. Some see small inventory should mean high price and others see small demand as low price.

I buy and sell, so I know there are a few people looking for big bikes, just as there are a lot of folks suited for 57-58s. Sold a huge (68cm) Fuji Royale last year , took a few months , but I was looking for a tidy sum .

I find this especially true for bikes this size that are or are anywhere close to sporty or race geometry. I of course prefer the low demand = low price thinking, as it is often paired with the mindset of "who would buy this?" .... I would!
