I noticed this posting for a nice Crescent frame.

https://cgi.ebay.com/Crescent-pepita-...item3f01b72835

The posting itself is not wacky, but notice the seller's response to another bidder's question. The seller says the BB is French threaded, but the headset is Italian? Does that make any sense? It seems (to my untrained eye) that the fork is original. Could the seller be wrong, or has anyone every heard of mixed threading on a frameset?

Bianchi Via Nirone 7 Alu/Carbon

https://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/bik/1866615398.html

Nearly new condition.

This is from a good buddy of mine who never had time to use it.
He is 5'11" and it fit him well.

I know very little about bikes, but from what I can determine from Google, this is what it has on it.
It's a fantastic bike, but unfortunately too small for me.
$750 cash is the lowest I'll go.
Did somebody really just give away that bike to someone who's too big for the frame because the original owner never had time to use it?

Right.

Another bike with helium filled tubes. Also, this appears to be around a 53 cm frame and it is advertised as a ladies bike? Actually looks like a decent bike, too.

https://holland.craigslist.org/bik/1863524568.html

For sale is a Ladies Centurion Accordo RS road bike..... This bike weighs about 11 lbs and has very skinny little tires so it moves fast......

Where to begin? The seatpost? The asking price? Or, the fact that the bike is a 1993 Raleigh C-50 hybrid and not a true road bike?

Road Bike - Triathlon / Touring - $425

Yes, begin with the seatpost. It makes it hard to notice anything else.

"Motobecane Grand Tutile" $325

Even if the price was not so high, even if the bike didn't look rusty and beat up, even if it weren't a jumbo size, he would still have trouble selling a bike called a 'Grand Tutile.'

It is of course a Grand Jubilee, which a moment of looking, thinking, or if that was not feasible, googling, would have resolved.

OTOH proper respect to him for spelling 'Motobecane' correctly.
He actually included a photo of the thrift store tag.

one of those lugged early 90s trek frames with mostly 600 and DT shifters for $810 + 70 shipping - thats almost $900! maybe i've been underestimating the value of these bikes!
well it was "custom" (aka built from stuff I had lying around when my buddy gave me the frame) LOL

I like this seller's self-deprecating sense of humor :

Old Mountain Bike For Sale - $35 (Rutherford NJ)

Old bike. Still works. The gears are a little funny sometimes. water bottle holder broke off of it a long time ago and apparently my solution was to duct tape a drink koozie on.

$35 OBO Pick up

Thanks!

OK now this is a listing for a car but really what can she be thinking.

"Hello i'm selling a 95 mitsubishi eclipse. I just bought the car on Friday 7-16-10 and the engine blew up on me on Wednesday 7-21-10. So needless to say i just want some money back for the car that i JUST bought. I bought the car for $2800 and i'm just asking $1000 for her. Other than the engine not working she is in great shape. It's a silver car and the interior is a darker grayish. The car has approx. 130,000 miles on her. The car is also due for inspection. Please call or email me with any questions, or if you want me to send pics to you. Thank you for looking. You can reach me at 410-241-1817 and ask for Crystal."

French made Unic-Sport road bike used for Tour de France professional racing. Uh, no it wasn't... though it doesn't have safety levers, might be too old for those?

Oh, and it apparently is a dog? Shifts and barkes well

I'm not sure if I'm just misunderstanding this, but it sure seems that the seller is acknowledging the frame is stolen. Even says so in the main title. Also, check out that mangled chain stay which "doesn't affect anything."

1975 Motobecane Grand Record vintage road bike - $800 (Fort Collins)
Date: 2010-07-29, 3:56PM MDT
Reply to: sale-t9vnw-1870486370@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

This is a 1975 Motobecane Grand Record , Red with Gold and black trim including a Rare Gold rear chain-ring. The pictures do not do this rare bike justice, is a great find in excellent condition. Based on the overall condition and wear in the chain-rings i would guess it never saw more than 300 miles and was stored in a clean garage for 35 years. Fully tuned, overhauled and refurbished at the bike shop i work at about 2 weeks ago. I tried to keep it as original as possible but upgraded some cosmetic parts.
I absolutely love how this bike turned out but it is too nice and good looking for commuting to the shop. It deserves to be in the hands of a collector with all its great original condition and unique parts.
Key Original Features
Great paint job - rare red with black and gold hand laid paint
Unique upgraded butted steel features- this bike has the most decorative and elegant butted steel styling offered at the time hand made in France
GOLD REAR Cog- VERY RARE- Has minimal -wear looks amazing with the other colors (I have been offered $100 just for this piece!)
Suntour V-Tluxe rear derailleur
Suntour compe V front derailleur
Campagnolo shifter
Stronglight Cranks
Norman Hubs with Rigida rims and galvanized spokes
Kusuki Win Japanese handlebars

New cosmetic parts include:
Brooks B-17 leather saddle
Red anodized origin8 clip-less pedals with original leather straps
cables and housing
Vintage Italian made Campagnolo shifter
CST Super hp tires,new tubes
New chain
New front and back brake pads
New handlebar tape

INCLUDES replaced parts:
original brake pads (very little wear they just stop slower)
original pedals -surface rust
original shifter
Price is fair at $800 Contact Harlie (989) 400-25XX...more pics available
Okaaaaaay....

Maybe if he put the original Nuovo Record derailleurs back on it'd be worth half that. Maybe even a little more. But original, or fair, it isn't. One would think that a guy who worked in a bike shop would know what a freewheel is called... and maybe if he could read his hubs wouldn't be named "Norman". We seem to get a surprising number of cluelessly dishonest people around here.

I'm not sure I'm getting the "wackiness" here. Aside from it taking a genius to blow up an engine in five days ("you might want to shift out of first gear, ma'am"), it's only slightly overpriced, depending on overall condition, then and now. Genius-level activity or not, you might be surprised how many people manage to completely destroy a car that quickly. Because of what I've seen I don't consider it to be very unusual and an engine change isn't that big a deal - the one in my particular car can be removed in about an hour if you know what you're doing. Perhaps it depends on perspective or perhaps I'm missing something.
