Well done. It looks very clean. What bar tape and saddle did you use? My first restoration was a '74ish U08 and that started my love for French bikes and wrenching. Keep it up and do you have more pictures?

Thanks Greg for your kind comments! The bar tape is actually real white leather sewn together- it is a kit sold by Velobitz in the UK The seat is a NOS French Pryma which is a dead on match to the oem ADGA Chatillonnaise 28A. Here are a few more pix:

The Silver one, is What Berthoud calls his rando bike. It has Paul canti on the back and I sent the fork off to remove the studs from it, b/c modern cantis would not fit and I wanted to keep the Vitus fork. A Pauls long reach is on it now. And it works like a champ!
It also came pre wired for a dyno. You can see the wire wrapped around the rear stay in the pic. Still trying to figure out what the rear braze on is mid way on the rear stay.

I thought some of you fans of French bikes might be interested in seeing this one. It's probably my favourite bike, and certainly my best find of all, even better than a 1948 Rene Herse frame for 51 euros. I stumbled on this when I responded to a local Craigslist ad for some Campy brake levers. The seller said he also had an old Lejeune in the garage. I almost told him not to bother getting it out, picturing some bike boom special. He wheeled out a dilapidated racer, but I could see it at least had Campy parts on it. I lifted it up, and that really got my attention. It turned out to be a '76 BP-Lejeune team bike ridden by two-time world pursuit champion Roy Schuiten. The 753 team bikes were built by BACO, and they had some neat details.

There are some Lejeune admirers here that are going to be quite taken by this particular bike - i imagine those pedals will be replaced by some appropriate Campagnolo ones soon! Must be a rare one!

Living as I do right next to Camp Lejeune Marine Base people ask me why I don't have one. Keep looking for one I tell them but they never seem to fall into my lap.

A Lejeune was the bike I was riding on with my initial racing successes.
Not nearly as nice at this one.

Someday. It took me over 10 years to find my NOS (at the time) Champ du Monde. Patience, patience.
I would like to have heard the story of how the seller came to have a team bike.

My mid-70's Gitane Olympic. Finished the build on Nov 12 and got in an 8 mile shake down ride. Since then the winter cold and snow has prevented any further rides.

Thanks non-fixie - I've actually communicated with Rob many times over the past few years and have told him he's first in line when I decide to sell. Rob sent me some great photos of his father and also had a couple of interesting stories to tell. Based on the frame specs, this bike was probably used by Schuiten in time trial events. Back then, a time trial bike wasn't much different from a regular road bike.
