I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a caad 10 105. It looks like I can get a 2014 model at a discount (advertised price $1200). A different bike shop said that all new 2015 models were also 15% off, which puts a 2015 model around $1350. the 2015 goes to 11 sp. I'm trying to pinch pennies everywhere I can but i'm leaning towards the newer one because it seems like there could have been a big shift in the components. Thoughts?
I wouldn't choose to ride a bike which didn't let me have one tooth jumps to the 19 cog with a sufficient low gear, high gear, and shift points on and off the big ring.
50-39/40-30 x 13-21 8 cogs, 53-39 x 14-25 9 cogs, 50-39x13-25/26 10 cogs, 46-34 x 11-23 or 46/50-36 x 12-25 11 cogs.
With middle aged spread I'd definitely want a triple.
Your W/kg, terrain, and taste for metronomic cadence will vary.

Go with 11 speed. It will be easier to get replacement parts for in the long run. 10 speed is great if you are already invested in it, but if not, go with the current technology.

If money is an issue, wait a few more weeks....the price of the 10-speed will be coming down drastically + parts will be much cheaper in the future. While in reality, you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the 10 and 11 speed.

I bought the last year model bike and it sat in my garage for a week while I stared at it thinking I wanted the '15 (there was a return policy on the bike but it stipulated "not ridden"). I took it back last Saturday and ordered the '15 model. They didn't have any in stock so now i'm stuck waiting without a bike.
As it turns out my local bike shop was able to give me in store credit for the difference, so I got the new bike and the credit paid for my shoes and pedals. The waiting is killing me!
I tried to save a few bucks and go with the last year model, but what drove me over was that I felt like it wasn't enough of a discount off of the new model for the old one to make sense. And because I kept wondering I just went with the new one. Now i'm going to kill any benefits I might have gained with the placebos of smoother shifting by putting on heavy bullet proof tires because I have been running into thorns out here that are driving me crazy.
