More yawning.
You may want to stay inside.
Being out in public seems to be a struggle for you.
Lots of elderly people, and people engrossed in conversations don't hear bells.
I do announce by voice as well.
People still jump, and squeal, and generally act surprised that anyone else would be using the path except thmselves.

You might want to stop being so patronising and making such assumptions.
It does nothing to make your "points" any more correct.

That's cute. This startling thing happens to you but not to me, and I'm the one with the problem? Your posts are generally some of the most arrogant and insulting stuff I see on BF, bad enough that I get annoyed even when I agree with your substantive points.

Seriously, you're not the person who should be complaining about other people's patronizing attitudes. Starting a post with "Yawn" is about as bad as patronizing gets.

Used to frequently ride on the MUPs in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park in the 70's for commuting, recreation and for just general access to other parts of Philadelphia and always enjoyed it. On every return to the area to visit relatives I make sure to get at least one more ride on Forbidden Drive as well as the East and West River Drives (now called something else to please various constituencies).

A little common sense and courtesy in moderating speed when necessary due to others' use of the MUP, as well as not even considering riding on this MUP as some sort of "training" event goes a long way to make every ride on this MUP an enjoyable experience. I've had thousands of rides on this MUP network over the last 45+ years and I always look forward to another one.

This is what I don't get about all the MUP bashing people do on BF. All you need to do is confine your fast riding to places where you can clearly see what's ahead and either lane is clear, or slow down as conditions warrant. In that regard, it's no different than road riding, frequently less stressful, and often actually faster. As soon as I go off of an urban MUP to city streets, my average speed drops dramatically as a function of frequent stops at intersections, among other factors . If you compare riding on an urban MUP to riding the shoulder an out of town 4 lane highway, no doubt the highway riding is faster, but that's comparing routes in totally different contexts, it's much more relevant to compare urban MUPs to urban roads. Rural MUPs vary like crazy, but the well-paved or smooth-gravelled ones might as well be bike highways.

This is exactly what happened with the nearest rail trail to me. When it was being proposed, one guy living next to the old rail line fought tooth and nail to keep it from becoming a reality. Then, after it was built, he realized that the trail has benefit and his property isn't being constantly looted by gangs of mauraders going up & down the trail. He soon became an ardent supporter.
