That color never did much for me. Not bright enough to be eye popping, and not dark enough to be "earthy". The price, nope. Doesn't
do much for me either. It's my size, or close though.,,,,BD

A warm welcome to the forums, 5Baum!

Nice bike, but it's clearly a full repaint and resto, and they overlooked a detail with the repaint -- if they were going for original appeal, the fork was partially chromed and had chromed crowns.

But having said that, a nice bike. You're right, don't know that it's worth $875.

59cm Steel Road Bike Frame - $40 (TEMPE)

Date: 2010-03-26, 9:31PM MST

Reply to: sale-kgb2a-1663427163@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

the frame is a raleigh, the paint is my own acrylic art paint, it will come off easily. the bottom bracket is smooth.

https://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/bik/1663427163.html

There are no words...
If you take it upon yourself to *create* a "custom paintjob", you may as well put the frame up for free. Nobody wants your crazy acrylic beater art, no matter how easily it will "come off."

One of the best ads I've seen in a while:

THIS BIKE F*ING RULES. - $200 (West Philly)

Date: 2010-03-27, 7:39PM EDT
Reply to: sale-cwh6z-1664602609@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

SPECIALIZED CROSSROADS HYBRID.

Believe it or not, there are two (count 'em!) brakes -- INCLUDED! -- because otherwise this bike is an unstoppable force of awesome-ness-ocity... which this bike also made into a word.

It is made from totally gnar steel tubing (which as you of course know is American for the veins of Godzilla).

There are 15 speeds of raw power, one of which may cause involuntary time travel, at your fingertips to do with as you wish.
Also includes a rear fender because it will make your panties THAT wet.
Purchasing this bike will make summer happen sooner. I know this because when I brought it down to Philly from Canada, it suddenly got like 50 degrees warmer. Will also convert Celsius to Fahrenheit at will. Fluent in Canadian French.

Recently tuned-up by God (aka Danny MacAskill).
Harmful if swallowed.

BRAND NEW tires, chain, brake pads. Shimano components.
Made for people approximately 5'7" and under who are worthy.

*****Comes with a free box of condoms because this bike will get you laid.*****

hey, thanks for the welcome guys. not sure why I posted that as my first post, but the earlier post mentioned they were looking for a Team Champion and I'd just come across that one. It's frustrating looking for a good bike in the Bay Area where everyone thinks their bike is worth more than what they paid for it 30 years ago. But, I'm just getting into road biking both for commuting and for pleasure and I'm setting a budget of 500 bucks, so this thread has been really helpful. My first bike as a kid was a Bridgestone MB-6, so for me right now, the holy grail is a reasonably priced RB-1...

Looking for bikes to use making custom recumbents per www.recycledrecumbent.com - The author and craftsman needs 'donor' bikes. ANY condition (except driveway debris) of the following -
Men's road bike frame - steel, lugged (preferred), English (3 piece) bottom bracket. You keep whatever you want off the bike, I need the frame and fork.
Some steel mountain bikes work for this program (no shocks), some bikes wanted for components (of value - 3 ring alloy cranks, MTB brake levers and shifters, handlebars, good rear wheels).

Got garage sculpture gathering dust - drop me a line, let's see what we can do.
Bike for the yard sale or church rummage - write to me - I may be able to save you some space on the sales floor.
Restoation guru's - Got a rusty bike that is too far gone for an easy restoration - it may be just right for me.
Been robbing the least of your projects to refinish the best of them - what do you have left over?
Somebody mangle the fork but the frame is OK - let me know.

It's time to recycle that old bike!

Paying $5 to $25, depending on value to the recumbent program. Thanks for reading.

These........................... Become these..........................

Actually, the guy who builds those is a quality builder, and he knows a valuable vintage bike and does not use the good ones as rebuilds... you guys really can be a bunch of snobs.

He may be a quality builder, but all I see around here is guys who want to build a recumbent on the cheap and cut corners, resulting in bikes that are dangerous to ride. Apologies for my reaction, but from my firsthand experience with recumbent cobblers, I have a bad taste in my mouth.

*edit: I should add that I have only dealt with hobby builders who are inexperienced in building bikes, and consequently build unrideable, dangerous things. A quality builder should certainly be able to construct a nice recumbent out of donor bikes.

You quoted wrong...I didn't indicate anything snobbish...I was merely wondering what ends up in his truck. I made no inference as to the quality of what he was doing, that was champion city.

This a 1980's something Raleigh frame with a red headtube. New deep dish rims with a COASTER BRAKE rear wheel - how cool is that? New white CTS tires. New seatpost. New red seat. Named "Alabaster." Still has original Raleigh pedals, crank, stem and handlebars. Handlebars cut to bullhorn style and warpped with new Deda tape. Satisfy your fixie jones with this coster brake single speed. As you can see by the photos: it's a red & white motif. Call Harry at 602-206-5249.
