I had written how my first indoor rides of the year (last week) on my Miami Vice were uncomfortable. I switched to my 86 classic and wore bike shorts and am now riding 45 min on the trainer, so much better. I'll ride one more week of 45 min trainer then move it one hour.
Two days ago I was actually able to ride my first outside ride of the year. I chose my 89 summertime blues with aero bars and 7 speed gripshift. It felt different than my 86 classic and initially i thought I would have to make some adjustments, however 10 minutes into the hour ride I was totally comfortable. It shifts smooth and precise despite having an 8 speed ultegra cassette. It simply doesn't go into the lowest gear (biggest cog). That could really be a problem except I'm changing to a 7 speed cassette with a spacer soon. My 89 is what I'll be hopefully competing in triathlons this year.
you know how sometimes when you ride and your mind drifts and you think about questions and answers and such? Well here's mine from my first ride of the year outside.
Which side do you mount your bike from? Do you always mount from that side?
I always ,always mount from the left/non drive side. I also always unclip from my left side at stops and dismounts with the exception of my ride a couple of days ago to help my left knee heal.
Keep those wheels spinning Irongents, inside or outside.

^ I always mount from the left too. Of course I also grew up on a horse farm so it's just second nature, LOL!

Thanks Robbie! You will get a PM on those decals. Have to get the planning set for stripping... And what colour to choose.
So many goofs and fudges by the PO

Threw the new Fabric saddle on this for safe keeping as I wait for the Thomson seatpost to come it. If this saddle works for me I think it will be the perfect look for this one. I like how the black/white color ties together with the bike. At least to my eyes.

Why do you have the rear brake cable running on the drive side?

1989 Centurion Iron Man Expert (original owner)
1989, I guess... Centurion Iron Man Expert (black) equipped with original Shimano SunTour GPX components.
Have been out of the saddle for quite awhile now. Getting back into it. Like my steel bike, while so many others ride carbon fiber.
Need to do some upgrades. I still have the original brake lever hoods and they are quite sticky. What equivalent models should I be looking for on Amazon to replace them. I'm looking for something in black that will be kind to a healthy 44 year old's hands. Something a little ergonomic.
Also, I will do some of my own research, but does anyone know of some good bicycle computer components that I can buy that will blue with my smartphone, an Android, instead of getting a closed system bicycle computer with its own screen and such.

Nice 89 Ironman. ^^^ Looks In really good condition.
Those components are suntour gpx.
Try some simple green on your brake hoods. I'm not familiar with Suntour components but they're no longer in business. So could be tough to source brake hoods.

The hoods on those levers are rare to find. Not quite sure of a contemporary replacement.
Nice bike! The "black dog" I believe.

What do want from your cycling "computer"? Put STRAVA on your android and you have speed distance, tracking. (I use an iPhone but android should be similar). I put baby powder on my Shimano 1050 hoods after a good cleaning and they are ok. I powdered them after each ride for maybe three rides and now they are fine. Dirty barely white....but not sticky.
