I have wrapped the bars and changed the saddle. And I found the proper binder bolt but haven't yet installed it. I put the Campy pedals on it, for the time being, though they are not my favorites. Sunday morning is set to be the day to take it out for a serious ride. I have no experience with a first ride on a bike which comes with so much hype. I hope I am up to the task.

The first time I rode my IM I felt the difference , It's hard to describe . "Resilient" maybe ? Put some tubulars on there and over the top baby .

Hmm... First time I rode an Ironman, it was a test ride in the lbs parking lot. A Miami Vice, I noticed the acceleration and quicker handling than my Panasonic dx 3000.
My first ride on my own Ironman was in 2006. My '86 Classic. Freshly rebuilt with old Due Ace. It was immediate "Hello old friend".

My wife had to take one of the grand kids to a neighboring town and was gone longer than I expected. When she got back she said "I would have been back sooner but I saw several garage sales so I looked to see if there were any cool bikes you might like" Today she didn't find any but a while back she found a Schwinn Le Tour. It was really rough and the guy wanted more than I was willing to give but I was still tickled pink that she spotted it. Now if it had been a nice Ironman.....

Indeed!
My wife is not that understanding about my bike collection, purchases, hobby or anything concerning bikes. However she most supportive of my training. Asking how did my bike, run, swim or any workout go. She doesn't complain about a 3 hour ride or 2 hour run. In fact, if I say I'm not feeling up to a workout, she ask Are you not feeling good or just being lazy? Or, Exactly where are you hurting?
The "Something" about bikes she just doesn't get. To be fair, I don't understand it either. I mean I could stare at bikes all day. What's up with that?
With its short 5 year run, I especially like seeing everyone's interpretation of their Ironman. So keep them coming and feeding my hunger. Later Irongents .

*The '84 Comp TA has the old-style Shimano DT shifter bosses, so while it can go STI/Ergo, it would be difficult to go indexed DT shifting. Which is a good reason to try some STI's on it. It's really a sweet frame.
**The '84 Turbo needs a lot of touch-up. Good that it's black, and the decals are nice.
***The '91 Carbon-R can be sold with 1" threaded headset and polished alloy OEM fork, or 1" threadless headset and Ritchey Carbon fork.

I saw that this morning on Craigslist. I like it but too much for my purposes. I'd like to have a turbo for a beater. Those forks, the chrome underplating, it's Hot.

Ended up picking a SL-6400 rear shifter only from bikewagon on eBay for 20 bucks. I though it is a better choice than getting a 6 speed megarange freewheel that will cost me 10 to 15 bucks, and now I will have 7 speeds rear instead of 6.
It should arrive around Wed.

Yes for sure. To pull the baby trailer, ride on gravel, lean against wall, you know everything I won't do with my Ironman .
On another note, pulled down my Monday bike and discovered this.

My brother in law is moving to Alaska - a story which I hope has a happy ending. He's taking nearly nothing with him. As part of that he left me his Expert TG. Although it's not pretty, it all seems to be present and solid. Both rims are hard ano. One is a replacement but I'm not sure which one. The front is Mavic Reflex 13mm and the rear has a peeling decal that says Mistral and it looks wider. A few years ago I did a Shimergo conversion for him and he apparently rode it without ever taping the bars or trimming the cables. This bike fits me, better than my Dad's "french fit" Paramount. I'm probably going to hang onto it, because I was thinking of getting another roadie anyhow. If the man ever comes back I'll have it waiting for him.

It's a functional bike. The brifters are only three or four years old. I plan to tune up and maintain it. Nicer 25c tires maybe. I think it's pretty likely I'll turn the seat post around and put on a seat with a cover... BIL has BMX in his blood.

The first time I saw this bike it had orange bar tape with black splotches. I've been unable to find it again.

By a simple twist of fate, I currently have both the wheels from the Paramount on the Ironman, That one is a stiff ride, so it has very supple tires to smooth things out. Vittoria Open Pave. They have made a nice ride that much nicer.

Yikes. What tires are those? I've never seen any peel like that, but I've heard some tubulars with glued on tread can do that, especially if used on rollers or a trainer with steel roller.
