My commuter
This is my Castro Valley commuter. Pretty much stock, but I added the Brooks B17 saddle, 32 mm Bontrager tires, rack, and I changed out the stem to get the handle bars up a bit.

Here are my newest commuters. I am rebuilding my RB-1 and have retired the MB-1, the cracked frame was making me nervous.
A Centurion Super Elite frameset built up to be a single-speed rain/snow bike. Running Vredestein Campo 700x28's for the snow until I get my Nokians. Yep, that's a bar-end stuck in the middle of the bar to elevate my light over the basket. I will strip and repaint this in the summer.
A Panasonic DX4000 built up as a fixed-gear (42x17) for the bulk of my commuting. The brass bell rings over bumps, automagically clearing the path ahead of you. Will probably strip and repaint this after the Centurion.
My wife's MB-3 with new Nitto Promenade bars and kickstand. I will be riding this in the snow once I add a rear brake and get the Nokians. Then back to being a mountain bike in the spring.

Oh, and Kris Pistofferson...I understand why you roll like this now. It's practical as hell.

Nothing like a little wimsy to lighten up ones attitude, especially with cagers everywhere.

Switched out the promenade bars for risers; just for the winter though. New pix when I get the time.

Frost is here to stay so I had to put away my commuter roadie. Finished this old Miyata Ridgerunner Team yesterday. Nice ride and for my short commute the 40- 20 singlespeed gearing is good enough. I will also be using it on utility roads in the woods(and in the ski tracks when no one is looking) during the winter.

the green machine
After many years of commuting on my mountain or road bike, (15 mile round trip) and thinking about what I really needed in a commuter I finally built up my ulitmate commuter/ultilty bike last spring. I live in the flatlands so a single speed was the obvious way to go. It's a Surly cross-check, decals removed. I've recently crossed the 2000 mile mark on it for the year, and other than some new tires (T-serv's) and a new freewheel, It's just like the day I built it, which is when this picture was taken. Ocaasionally I throw a rear rack on it for groceries and errands, and of course now I've got lighting set up for winter. It's turned out to be everything I'd hoped it would be. I love it.

Here's mine. Depending on the season and my mood, it might be set up with slicks, knobblies or studded tires:

This is my latest commuter build. Started out like the one in the pic below. (I bought these both for $75 and my daughter is riding the stock pink and grey one) I've put less than $50 in it for drop bars, stem, bar-end shifters, brake levers and some black spray paint. The tires, seat, racks and fenders I already had on another bike.

Here is my mine. I got my hands on the Raleigh mountain frame and built it up with some used and some new parts. I just need to get the fenders on it.

This is my most recent setup of my commuter/everyday ride. An old Wheeler mtb a friend was going to throw out. Mavic rims, generic hub on the front and an axiom s/s disc hub on the back, geared at 42/15 right now. Kenda kwest tires, shimano 105 cranks ($15 for a bargin bin), stem was $2 from a friends store, chopped and flipped drops from a frame I found on garbage night, and new planet bike fenders from MEC.

Only problem with the chopped drops is that I really have to cram the brakes to fit my hands.
Not a real issue though.
