Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I ended up going for a ride, too. I thought I'd just do a shortish, low-intensity ride. I ended up going for my longest ride since 2017. That's not saying much, but it was one of those days when you feel like a Cycling God, and every time you reach down for a little more, you always find it. The smoke held off - AQI not over 120 or so the whole ride. Maybe not my best decision, but hey - I could sit at home and not go out till the air is perfectly crystal clear, and then get run over by somebody talking on their phone.

Man, lemme tell ya - 95 miles in the saddle wasn't good for the hip bee sting. Damn thing is irritated as all get out and the swelling is about the size of my palm.

I can assume by the absence of water bottles, you are practicing the @Velo Vol approved pre-hydration methods.

I spent the day taking apart that play ground that I just built for my daughter in June. Plan was to remove the slides, swings, roof, and ladder then carry the body of it to the trailer. For cheap wood this thing is heavy. Ended up stripping it of almost everything but the wall support and floor and still can’t move it. Frustrated.

The garbage disposal took a dump today too. First thing to break on the new house. Tried resetting it and using the tool but it won’t run. Going to try and replace that tomorrow too. This move has seriously been the hardest one yet. My whole body feels like I got hit by a truck. I still have a heavy ass futon and jewelry box plus the above picture and then I am done.

No, that's just how the legs are made.

The bike is a Large.

If you look carefully, you'll note that the cranks are at 3:00 and 9:00, the valve stems are at 6:00, and the chain is big ring/small cog. I set it up for a GCN Bike Vault pic.

Water bottles and tail light are off screen, right.

BUT, the temperature today was darn near perfect. 65-70, not too windy. The sun, of course, was really attenuated by the haze.

Off the subject -

Holy schnikes, does that Dune trailer look good.

Seeing snippets of the Dune movie/mini-series on cable when I was a kid really turned me off for whatever reason, and I'd never developed an interested in Dune, neither books nor film, but this has very interested. As much as I want to read the book ASAP, I kind of want read it after the movies so that compromises/omissions/additions don't bother me as much.

Also, I wasn't feelin' the Pink Floyd cover in the trailer at first, but when it ramps up, it's great.
