Personally, to rip core traffic, I prefer the SS. With the dynamics of traffic, I think I'm faster on an SS than on a fixed.

yeah, this isnt some moral issue -- right vs. wrong / good vs. bad.
I understand singlespeeds and rode one for years. I understand fixed conversions, but I dont get converting classic roadies to singlespeeds when you could just keep everything on it and not shift gears. I dont get the point. He's obviously not looking for a performance upgrade (if so, then those deltas would have been replaced). He's not a weight weannie and I doubt it's a maintaince thing since that would almost a lateral move. fashion/style maybe? that colagno has tons of that.
but whatever -- it's his bike.

hmm is that a road crank with singles stack bolts or a track crank?
I've always loved the look of deltas. I remember when they were new I lusted after a set of those soooo badly.

yeah deltas are hot -- 1980s italian techno style.
supposedly, they are more of "speed modulators" than brakes but I've never ridden them myself. that's the word on the street.

I've known a few people who switched them out after some white knuckling rides. Don;t think I'd want to trust them to stop me in the midst of "playin' in traffic"

First of all, it isn't a conversion. I bought it new as a frameset.
Secondly, the reason why it's SS and not geared (as it should be, I agree) is I already had a lot of these parts including the gorgeous pista crankset. Found this frame and thought, why not.

1) What size rim do you need to have (minimum) to get those 50mm tires on! What type of clearances are we talking? Is this something any old road frame can handle, or only a boss surly frame.
2) lets stop fighting about the Italian bike, I think we can all agree that delta brakes are hot...so we all like delta brakes which makes us all cool and all from the same tribe. I would totally sacrifice my braking power for a pair of delta speed modulators!

The connotation/denotation of “found” leaves me wondering... “Triple Lindy dumpster dive” or “Louisiana-ish purchase”?
Since riding a SS/FG is about embracing the simplicity and minimalist ethos of the direct drive train it seem wasteful and excessive to carry derailleurs & non-essential hardware, especially in the flattest of all lands. More a trainer than a here-to-there shuttle. Is the downtube beaded?
PS. Carnaval in Maastricht is the be it and end all of a proper costume party.

The Crosscheck is probably still a bit snappier but these look promising. They'll be in the US this summer.

One girl's IRO Mark V...
So... I was very inspired by Gyeswho's "utilitarian" IRO, though I see that he's moved on to another epic build with the Surly Crosscheck! 
Anyways, this is my version of the Mark V. It's still a work in progress. Sorry for the green tires - they're my "all seasons" and will likely be swapped out for something black (ok, maybe with some pink
) in the spring.

Seatpost: Ritchie
Cranks/BB: Sugino 75 (165/46)
Bars: Bike Nashbar
Brakes/levers: Tektro
