Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I received full points on the first two assignments in my Resource Development course and the teacher wrote "Great job on this first assignment" and "Keep up the good work". The teacher has it set up so for every point you're awarded on assignments and quizzes, the imaginary organization will receive $1000 so thus far I have raised $20,000. I am going to kick ass in this course and maybe someday I'll be able to open a nonprofit of my own which is bike-oriented.

In our town, we have roads. Some roads have painted lines. Some roads have shoulders. A road without lines has no shoulders. A road with lines may have a shoulder, and it may or may not be navigable.

California sounds complicated.

Truthfully, I do sometimes get some training in on a MUP, usually opener rides but occasionally some big gear work or the like. It really is zero issue if you know the traffic patterns on your MUPs. For example, I can pretty much guarantee that nobody is going to be on the new river trail at 6am and it works well for what I need to do for openers. And yep, I ride in the aerobars. I would be causing WAY more ruckus to ride 6-7am on the road when people are trying to get to work.

Generally speaking, this is why generalizations are not generally not that useful. It really is different in different places.

Except the being courteous part. That is worth striving for universally.

Don't do that. Please don't do that. Start a thread outside of here if that's something you really feel the need to do.

Frankly I don't want hordes of the 41 in this thread, and I'm sure I speak for more regulars than just myself. This thread, in case you haven't noticed, has a peaceful, laid back atmosphere, dominated by mature, long-time regular members that like to keep it that way. It's a special place, an oasis so to speak, that is special particularly because most of the 41 doesn't come in here with all that 41 baggage. Mature is the key word. Mature, and low key, two things not normally found in the 41.

So please don't provide any special reason for the 41 to come in here.

Hey Ramona, not sure if it's at all relevant to you but a friend of mine runs a local bike-centered nonprofit, their page is here-

Richmond Cycling Corps

tl;dr they help youth from local public housing avoid gangs and drugs by racing mountain bikes. The guys that work there are great and very helpful if you ever need advice about nonprofit funding or strategies.

I actually said "hi" to a family I passed during the TT this evening.

My front tire went flat at work, so hardly any feets were climbed by me. Tomorrow, I will climb and take the elevation jersey back!

I live in the flatlands so the elevation jersey will rarely be mine. I intend to vie for the broken saddle award for most miles.

Will you only count contraptions that actually have saddles?

Vehicles with Barcaloungers and more than two wheels might not count.

That's a fine point there. My club counts trike miles for the Broken Saddle so I'm going by their rules.

BTW, I only turn miles in for my club's award every five years or so or I'd have a bunch of them. I magnanimously let them spread the award around to lesser beings.
