There is a pinch bolt at the bottom of the steerer tube-top of the fork crown. Basically the steerer tube is removed from the frame and the fork/truss can be removed forward.

Phil always looks good. Campy does some nice stuff but their more modern stuff has lost some of the flare and panache but Phil has stayed the same and the same is real good!

Looks like a new one. They are making custom bikes again in the same fashion with the fancy lugs and paint jobs only with modern steel. This one looks like Reynolds 631. Paul dropouts are an odd choice though.

Right...they swear was built with the Pauls and I believe it

Mercian is still around and making custom frames, this one has 120mm rear spacing and despite the look it is not very old. I wonder about the choice too but original owner must've ordered it like that...and IMHO is still pr0n-worthy

You just pull on the cables. The ends are held in one of the stand off the housing is held in the other.
Its confusing because there is a piece of sheath (housing) in the middle so that the cable doesn't cut into your hand.

Seems like you wouldn't get enough mechanical advantage to stop.

Good point, i guess i hand't given it much thought. I am trying to remember how to calculate the tension generated. I think it behaves like a Catenary, which has a non-linear tension to force, (like a suspension bridge) but quite frankly i have forgotten .

I have only ever seen the system on show bikes but it should work ok with the long arm calipers shown in the photo. Plus since you are closing your fist around the bar and the cable, I am guessing most people could generate a fair amount of force.
