Giotto started the company in Florence after the war. Cino came aboard in 1946 and Giotto tended to another business. Cinelli switch to aluminum handlebars in 1960 but they did make steel ones up to the mid-60s. Cino retired and sold the business to Antonio Columbus (Columbus tubing) in 1978. I don't know exactly when they started with the aluminum frames, but probably the late 80s like everyone else. Columbus also manufactures composite frames. They still make steel tubing and Cinelli still makes a steel SC and a steel/composite combination frame. As you noted, in 1997 they aquired 3T and changed the corporate name to Gruppo Spa.
I don't know what you mean by if it is the same company or a name? Cino is dead, so is Giotto but then again so is Mr. Coke, Levi Strauss and countless other brands. Do you have a better definition of what you mean?
Since Cinelli always was and is a boutique frame manufacturer, I believe all the frames are made in Italy. I could be wrong and would be happy to learn more about the company.

The modern ally frames are made in Italy by Dedaccai (who makes most of the Italian ally frames) , but some are made in Asia .
The company re-structured and has applied their name now to products made in Asia as well as Italy.

Really? Columbus takes their tubesets to their main Italian tubing competitor Dedacciai and has them build their Cinelli alloy bikes? I am skeptical but open to the idea if presented with concrete evidence.

The Colombo family bought the company from Cino in the late 70's. Cinelli is a part of the parent company, Gruppo, along with Columbus Tubing and until recently,Techno Turbo Torino (3TTT). All Cinelli's are fully constructed with various Columbus tubings of aluminum, steel, Stainless and carbon-graphite composites.
IMO, besides being the favored "pet" of Mr Colombo, the Cinelli bicycle line primarily exists to showcase new Columbus tubing products to the industry and for research & demonstration of Columbus developed construction techniques & technologies.

Somehow I doubt very much Columbus would use a competitor's tubing on their bikes. Here's a link to their aluminum tubing https://www.columbustubi.com/eng/3_2.htm
Do you have any proof of that statement?

Built it up in the spring, still hanging in my garage with the baggie on the seat. Put on the pedals, but it's still never been ridden.
Can't bear the thought of getting the seat dirty.

Man, sweet bikes. I cant wait till my frame arrives. Was hoping to get a Campy grouppo from PBK but everything is on backorder. Any one know a retailer that sells Campy and would be close to PBK prices?
Later.

I'm currently building this. The seatpost in the pic isn't the one i'm going to use, thats just for putting it in the repair stand. Also don't have a white garage door, so hopefully a white bedroom door is ok with you lot

My 2005 Cinelli Aliante
My first road bike is FINALLY FINISHED!!!!
From the day it touched the ground, I managed to ride it every day for seven days straight! I LOVE THIS BIKE! So much so, the rain came and I just can't take it out in the rain just yet...
I don't think I will ever have the Italian sportscar, so this is it!
This is my F1 machine - complete with paddle shift - state-of-the-art Campagnolo Record Groupo - the whole bike is Italian. YES - I adopted the bike snobb'ery way - shoes, bib's & jersey - ALL ITALIAN!!!!
I even have a Campagnolo water bottle - say's Made in Italy on the bottom.
Check out my Cinelli Build-Up thread.
