Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Afternoon destination. Sadly, it did not go as I hoped. (All I got was a bone scan.)

These pics are posted over in C&V as well. Their Drop-Bar conversion thread was somewhat to blame for this .
I took this:

And turned it into this (the saddle might be recognizable- and yes, it's quite comfortable):

The fork, I have been informed by two people, is a little bent (the wrong way), but nevertheless it's still a nice ride on my hill-less country roads.

Seeds, you too? Tastes foul to me. Sheep cheese too. Pretty sure it is genetic. A missing or extra enzyme.

I'm home now and this Garmin watch I have is a Vivo Active. Looks like I'll be doing some testing over the next few days to see if I have to invest in a separate HR monitor- either @rpenmanparker's wrist band (thanks for that idea, BTW ), or a chest strap. Choosing a Garmin 520/800/1000, et. al. will have to wait for my brand-new bike purchase, which is still TBD.
You're welcome. My pleasure.

Beautiful bike @Jadesfire. I have a repaint that very color. A banner day for steel bikes in Addiction. I'm glad you enjoy the saddle.

Edit: I had a loaner, for a couple weeks, before I got S&S couplers on one of my bikes, with the fork bent so badly the front brakes wouldn't work. It was a delightful rider.

Continuing a steel theme, from tonights Schwinning. Awesome bike for instrument free recovery & JRA rides.

Riding it is just a smile.

One of the part-time bike shop mechanics wears Mechanix gloves. Seems like overkill. But his primary job is at an automotive body shop, so maybe it's just habit.

I'd love an RB-1 in yellow, but I don't know how the geometry would work for me - horizontal TTs usually don't work so well.

I feel like people always hand-wring about snakebite flats when they don't pump their tires before every ride. I've got about 6 year's worth of regular riding under my belt now, and I've never pinch flatted. I sometimes forget to pump for over a week and have run 23s at under 60 psi. I'm no lightweight either, about 180 lbs. I normally run 25s at ~80 rear, 75 front without issue, a bit more for races.

Am I just lucky?
I have pinch flatted. Not because of under inflation. I hit a pothole or run over some debris because of a momentary lapse.

All of my flats in the last 4,500 miles on the Allez have been pinch flats.

I had mine re-painted, it was previously a faded red. That's why it's so fast, it's soul is red.

I looked up to see an oncoming motorcycle, in my lane. His lane was empty. He was fiddling with something and definitely not looking at the road ahead. Then, coming back through town, I very nearly got creamed by a police vehicle flying around a blind turn, also in my lane, lights flashing. They don't get much excitement in their lives as policemen.
How many of these close calls are we each allotted?
