Richard is a strong rider, I ran into him and his friend just last year (both riding Vitus bonded aluminum bikes as I recall) at a gas station rest stop way up here in the foothills.
We were on completely different rides, but both were long and hilly.
He actually remembered JG's RM bike I had owned based on my description of it.

I believe Richard recently retired from his long-time day job at HP or some place like that.
Hence the possibility of his again picking up the torch.
