Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm looking into this or a 510 myself. Is the default spedometer data gathered by GPS or the sensor?

^^ unless you really need the cadence, the speed works fine w/o the sensor.

You'll get more accurate readings with it, however. If you have a sensor, it's used to calculate overall mileage using your wheel size. It will also use a sensor for speed if you have one, which is more accurate than satellite-based information.

i like having cadence and wanted an integrated HRM. It seems to me that the default speedometer data SHOULD be gathered off the sensor but I'm not sure. I liked the smaller form factor of the 500 over the 510 and I *think* I should be able to use this for running also with an armband. While cool, I knew i wouldn't use the additional features of the 510.

I can confirm that the 500 works for running. Just put it in your pocket and run.

Agree, if you have your wheel size entered 100% correctly which I'm sure the vast majority of people don't (including myself).

The 510/810 calculate wheel size automatically, not sure on the older models.

I had a message on my first ride with my 500 that told me it adjusted wheel size to fit the GPS numbers. So I guess 500 and 800 does it too.

True, but it uses the GPS to do so which isn't 100% either...but close enough for my needs without splitting hairs

BOT, I purchased two new short sleeve Wool blend jerseys from RoadHolland.

I buy stuff all the time, just don't see the point of mentioning mundane stuff. But today I bought my wife a Scott Matrix 40 bike in the female version, a cheap bike but it's what she wanted and all we could find in our area for the best deal. I wanted to buy a different bike off the internet that would have been a better deal but she wanted to test ride it, so we went to all the LBS's in town and decide on that bike. She doesn't ride much but she needed a lighter bike then an old Giant Rincon that weighs 32 pounds and she wanted a womens bike not a mans bike like the Giant was.

Upgrading from 7900 to 9070. Can't wait to see what all the hype is about.

They do, the wifes Jersey was half price, they also throw out coupon codes quite often, this order I used a 20% off code.

No more pump on my frame, everything fits in the seat pack. Quikstik should speed things up a bit.

Nice, will have to start watching their site/join their email list. Those jerseys are snazzy!

Right, but what Cale262 is saying is that it's not nearly as accurate as manually setting it. I've found that to be true myself, which is why I always manually enter wheel size in a bike profile.

Which is only accurate if your method of measurement is fairly accurate. Getting the number out of a manual isn't.

I make a mark on the garage floor with the tire valve stem at 6 o'clock. Roll the bike forward one wheel revolution and make another mark on the floor. Measure between the two to the nearest 1/32" and convert to mm, then enter into bike computer.
