Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Carbon vs. Aluminum for 'cross racing.

I've learned a few things in this thread:

1) People will argue about anything.
2.) This is almost as fun to watch as a tire pressure conversation.
3.) Meanwhile is an engineer (at least, he/she sure sounds like an ME or an MSE)
4.) Why make your own decision, when 30 perfect strangers are willing to tell you what to do

On that last note, to the OP:

You work in a bike shop, I think that means you are not rich. Buy the cheaper bike. It sound like the technology is better (by your own admission) and you're just looking for an excuse to go carbon. You can always pickup a carbon frameset in a year and swap everything over if you decide you don't like the Aluminum.

Besides, Aluminum recycles.
