I'm so vain that when I got t-boned by a car, witnesses said I kept begging the EMT's to not cut my jersey or shoes off...I lost that battle and they cut my favorite jersey and my $400 fizik shoes. I later got my shorts cut off at the hospital.

I don't ride through water at all. Don't want to get my bike wet. Crazy OCD about a clean bike.

The one time I cleaned my (white) shoes,
I showed up for a group ride & someone commented on how clean they were.
looking around, everyone elses shoes were dirty (all high-mileage strong riders). I was embarrassed.

Randonneuring twisted my roadie vanity, to where there is joy in wearing the same stinky clothes for days, satisfaction seeing the horrified expressions of mere citizens observing my state of being, and pride that the filth still on my bike came from some godforsaken place who's name and location I am uncertain.

You should have shown up in a white jersey, white shorts AND your white shoes, then you would have had the last laugh.

haha, as a hybrid rider that has passed my share of road bikes I’ve meet this guy frequently.
mime is I’m not 100% in good shape yet and huff and puff some on the bike. I make an effort to breath quietly when Im coming up on someone.

Kidding aside, another road bike rider who was actually pretty darn fast ans I were just completely blown by the other night by a woman on a mountain bike. She was hardly even breathing...

I feel guilty when I stop pedaling while grabbing my water bottle for a quick drink, which is most of the time.

Better looking bike is part of the reason I use a GPS watch instead of a computer mounted to the bike.

I'm as vain as anyone, but I can't relate to any of the things described here. I can't think of how my vanity expresses itself, but I'm sure it will come to mind...

Keeping the bike clean, more to keep it quiet than for vanity, but I also do just enjoy the look of a clean bike, even when riding solo. The only thing I want to hear is the hum of my tires.
