Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I think you're mistaken. It was no ordinary spoke. It was a special spoke. A custom spoke. A bespoke spoke.

They did. Should they have installed it for free? I bought the part from them after all, for much more than the street price.
So, about $20. They did it while you waited. Ten minutes 'til closing. You totally got hosed.

Yes!!! The #StanleyCup drought is extended for another year! Possibly the greatest streak in sports.

My parents might as well have welded the dial to NPR when I was growing up. Now I can't stand that faux-intimate whisper into the microphone sound.

Oh man... that same sort of voice has been adopted by the free-to-air television voice-over talent for program promotions. The low, monotone, whisper-like dramatic voice... OK for a while, but after two or three years, it has become a turnoff.

I must be of your parents' generation. I can't stand it either, but the bulk of my generation, in my circle of view, still has it welded there. Habit. I always think of the Schwetty balls episode on SNL.

For the record, I didn't mean to bash NPR, just GK and PHC and that's just my 2¢

I meant to bash NPR

Far, far worse, on a scale all its own, was the Mother Earth News' attempt at a radio show, also on NPR. I gag just remembering it.

For a few years I (by choice) did not have a television. On Sunday mornings when I didn't have to work, I'd enjoy my two cups of coffee with the radio on, and would often find myself on the shores of Lake Woebegone, and I'd stick around for Car Talk, which I grew up with as my mom was a fan while it was on the air. But it could get to be too much. I agree especially with disliking that low voice.

Also, my weed eater is evidently on permanent strike. I think it needs a new spark plug (again).

I was on my own strike against weedeaters for many years. They just weren't worth the effort of trying to keep them going. When we moved to our country place, where we are now, I bought a Stihl fs085. It's performed flawlessly for its first year.
