Steppinfunk, those Willie and Max Standard SB301's look really tidy. How do you have them attached?

I understand there's some kind of hidden clip behind the buckle, right? About $100?

Karrimor (Accrington England) pannier attached to my Raleigh C-50. Bag is from the 70s? early 80s? Also have a Cannondale bag under the saddle for my multi-tool & a wedge bag for other stuff. The saddle is a leather Selle Royalle from Italy.

My old Univega with a "Schwinn" saddlebag. It appears identical to Karrimor bags so I believe that's who made it. Not the highest quality but it's big and does the job.

take a stroll through the womens bags isle at your local thrift store and you might find some good stuff. I have seen several cylindrical leather bags that would make great seat bags.
Still, the coolest bike on the C&V forum.

Which ones? the first set were purchased on Ebay for $5.00. I see them all the time going for about $15-$20. Just look under the equestrian category. Most of them are in the Buy-it-now store area.
Spend a bit more and you can get some pretty nice ones.

https://search.ebay.com/search/search...=32%26fsoo%3D2

As for the black ones, they are Willie and Max motorcycle panniers. Got mine locally for $60.00(used) I think.

Yup. You don't have to unbuckle the metal buckles to open the bag. Their are plastic quick release buckles behind them.

Those are nice AllenG. A quick search for Frost Riveer has told me that they are no longer making products

I remember seeing some their site before and thought to myself that they would sell a lot more bags if they would only post pics of the real bags rather than just the drawings.

I didn't know they went belly up. That's sad.

Yeah, I wasn't very hip on the J. Petterman style catalogue either.

This is probably my favorite bag. Found it in a dark corner of Recycled Cycles in Seattle for only $5. I later found out it was sold by Rivendell but is no longer available. Don

I flipped this Continental II last month that came with nice bag. Buyer asked if I would remove and trash it for him. I guess bags are like purses?, a matter of personal taste. I kind of got geeked up when I read in this thread about looking for leather purse/bags at thrift stores. When I went looking all they had for sale has been junk. Goodwill wanted $125 for the only leather bag I saw.

I'm loving the new Riv "Sackville SaddleSack"

ok, the name is stupid.

https://www.rivbike.com/products/list...product=20-132

this thing is perfect for my commuting needs. Just fits a laptop and probably a change of clothes too.

I wish it was a little cheaper, but I might be getting it anyway.

They also make an even larger size

'80s Stuff

Certainly not as elegant as some of the nice leather and canvas offerings here. Here's an early '80s Cannondale bag I still use.

Another 80s oldie: a Rhode Gear water bottle and dedicated holder.

I have that bag and I stupidly used it on a 200k this month. I don't know where the bungees or the map case are. I was stumbling over the map case for years, why I didn't keep it in the bag I have no idea.

The map case is pretty yellowed now; usable, but I just put it on for illustration.
Stupidly used it? Because no bungee support? You can probably buy some elastic cord, and get s-hooks at a hardware store. And I had been thinking of finding some kind of replacement clear map case and adding my own snaps, if I could match the ones on the bag.

Stupidity was all mine. The bag woulda worked fine if it was set up properly. The main stupidity was that I didn't test it first. I rode halfway across Virginia with it back in '81, no problem. It worked great with the stem I was using back then, which has since failed. I forgot that I replaced it with a little bit different stem that wasn't compatible with the brace. Riding 120 miles holding your bag on your handlebar is no fun With the Cinelli 1A I used back in the day, the bungees weren't even that essential because the binder bolt located the bracket really well.

I'm thinking it can be made to work a lot better. I'd be interested in you map case design. I think I have a tool that installs snaps. I can't imagine where that would be though.

1982-ish Ron Cooper with the Rivendell Banana bag I move between my bikes for most rides. Bigbossman calls it my "steamer trunk," but it holds everything I might need on a ride, including the spoke wrench needed to get Mrs. Bigbossman home when a spoke broke on the cheap-ass wheel he got her. (He doesn't tease me about quite so much any more.

I have a Riv Hoss bag on a Carradice frame thingy, too, which I use for commuting and hauling extra crud on my Paramount, but no pix of it in action. The frame thingy lets me use it on my saddle of choice (San Marco Rolls Titanio), which does not have the bag loops the Hoss (and Carradice bags) otherwise needs. The frame thingy also makes the bag instantly removable and put-on-able.

I found a pair of the equestrian saddlebags on e-bay. How did you deal with fastening them to the bottom of the rack so they don't flop around. I got the Pclips already

Not leather but canavas type with leather straps: I bought a fishing bag new for £10. Put a flat alu piece innside to keep it from colapsing. Not perfect but great looking and cheap.

Yeah - but you still look like a hobo carting all your stuff around from camp to camp.
