Out of curiosity - how many days do you spend touring? Or do you just spread the pics out? Seems like you get around, a lot.

What tires are you running and do you have many flats? They look like Compass and I've had mixed results doing road rides with a lot of road debris...

hello Nick,

when I have holidays i am out on the bike, did a lot of Spain, lots of Romania, once Georgia Caucasus. Exploring off road is the idea, no car traffic please. 50-60days a year out with the touring bike.

yes, I use Compass, a bit risky when the gravel roads are full off stones, the side walls are not the strongest, but thats why they roll so great, I prefer to run that risk and have a good rolling tire, concrete tires a la Schwalbe is nothing for me.

New to the forum. I'm in the process of completely rebuilding my Claud Butler Dalesman, so please excuse the horrid picture.

gwildor, if that sprung seat is new, you'll find that they tend to "soften" up a bit over time. I'm a lightweight and found that mine was overly stiff (I had bought it used, but essentially new) and meant to resell it, as I didnt see the point of it given its weight. Never got around to selling it and it ended up on a bike I used winter commuting, then on another commuter, and I began to feel that the springs loosened up and now it does a good job of taking the edge off potholes etc.
As noted, they are heavy buggers, but aesthetically I find them very pretty as an object, and now that it is a help with rough roads, its even better in the functionality dept as well.

It's not a new saddle, I transferred it over from my commuter bike. I think the comfort from it far out weighs the weight of it to be honest. I wouldn't be without a sprung Brooks under my backside!

Well, one other option is fatter tires at lower pressures, I've found that this works a treat and significantly improves rough road riding, although I've always found a well fitting b17 to have a pretty good amount of give that helps with comfort.

I'll take a pic of my set up and post it on here eventually. I'm going on a quick jaunt to Vancouver BC from Portland over memorial day weekend. I the seatpacker also but picked up the rollpacker 15, so going to try that out this time around,

Have a fun weekend. The arkel rollpacker 15 or 25 looks interesting. The larger one with a handlebar bag and maybe a frame bag would be great for look if light fast touring.

Almost complete! Just have Schwalbe Marathon Tour tires to go on, swap out the pedals and mount the camera.

You can't see it in the photo but I made a carbon plate for the top of the 8 pack rack. It has "pockets" for my charger and cache battery.

Me looking a little sassy with my Centurion Pro Tour. Love this bike- going to ride to Seattle -> cabo this summer with the same setup + a swift paloma handlebarbag. My dad rode the same frame across the country in the late 80s so it has some sentimental value.
