Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

I just switched my Cross Check from fixed gear to 2x10.

I haven't decided yet whether I'll race this or the Jake come CX season. Neither one is anything special, but then again neither am I.

FWIW - I have these on my Masi when I use it for long commutes/training. Beaker Concepts alum hydrotail + Gorilla cages. No way it breaks and/or tosses a bottle...

Those look pretty cool, but I think I'm done with the saddle rockets. When I build up the CX bike I'm piecing together I'm just gonna go with bottle cages. didn't much care for the reach-around..

What about shouldering the bike? BTW, who doesn't like a reach-around?

I've still got the bottle holder, I could probably just replace the bottle cages and be done with it. I've never done a cross race before, so things like this don't really occur to me naturally. I'm primarily building this to replace my not-so-versatile fixed gear, which is being converted to SS and handed down to my girlfriend for her 2.5km commute to work. I'm hoping that pedaling my ass off every day to and from work (20km away) might make me race-worthy by fall. We'll see.

Still waiting on a grip of parts from JensenUSA.
New compact bars and v-brakes. I'm a noob and suck at setting up the cantis. Rather than mess with them I just figured i'd try the v while I'm still finishing the bike.

It's a Redline Conquest Team scandium frame, externally butted tubes, with Ultegra 9 speed. I think it's a 1999 or 2000 from the graphics.

I used all the parts from the Poprad that didn't fit me but I'm slowly replacing parts. I think i'll keep the rear cantis as they still work just fine.

I'll be using this as my daily commuter so I don't want finicky front brakes. Seen with 28s on some cheapie wheels.

Cool bike. Your picture is almost cool too, but you left the warning sticker on the fork and your ds crankarm isn't pointing straight ahead.

I haven't taken a long enough ride on the bike to form an opinion yet. Next month should tell the tale though when I ride it in a 30 mile pavement/gravel road race. I'll let you know after that.

After watching this thread fro some months, I can finally really contribute.
Last night I pulled the trigger on a 2009 Fuji Cross Comp.
105 shifters and FD with an Ultegra RD. Really great deal at $799 with double points from Performance which equals $160 rebate.
23.5 lbs on my bathroom scale with pedals and bottle cage.

I gave it a quick spin last nite and realized that hills on this are going to be tough.
I'll be going from an 18 gear inch bike to a 38 inch bike. And I loves my granny gear. Looks like changing the cassette to a 27 will bring my gear inches down to 27; getting closer.

I've only had MTB's for the last 15 years or so and have done road rides up to metric centuries by putting slicks on the MTB. I hope to use this bike to try and get to mile centuries by swapping tires. I also hope to try some CX races in the fall. Maybe I'll get rich enough and get a second wheel set.

When it comes to looking at wheel sets, does anyone have any idea what my 32 spoke Alex DC-19 wheels with Fuji hubs and generic spokes might weigh? I can't find weights on the Alex website. I might just have to weigh them myself.

Well, here's the poor cell phone garage pic. Sorry that I don't have a BF regulation white garage door.

Finished it last week. It rides great. It's got road tires right now, but I might try my hand at CX racing this fall. Thought you guys might enjoy it.

2010 Jake the Snake frame (OEM take-off), 6700 shifters and derailleurs, chain and BB, 6600 crankset, Thomson X2 stem and Elite seatpost, Raceface bars, Fizik antique brown bar tape, Fizik Arione saddle (with matching brown stripe down the middle ), Avid Shorty 6 brakes, Jagwire cables, Mavic Aksium wheels and Conti Gatorskin 28s.

Oh, and the pedals are CB MXRs. Cheap-o, I know, but they came with my Exile, and I'm too cheap to upgrade them since they work fine.
