I've been stuck at home with the flu for the past 8 days. I'm finally feeling like I'm over it. I hope to get back out by Wednesday. Being sick sucks.

I never know if a short easy ride hurts or helps with flu/colds?

it helps the spirit but hurts the flesh.
still...i’d rather be out at low intensity than laying around at zero intensity i’m rarely sick tho. your results may vary. if it’s a cold, i like to “burn it out.” flu or allergies, go super slow.

After a few local Whittier/La Habra Heights rides I ventured back out to Encanto Park and Up to Mt Baldy Village. Must of been about two dozen riders out mid-morning. GRR was closed so I made the most of it. Saw four mule deer near Cow Saddle. Road was perfect!

25 miles of wet gravel along the Santa Ana River near my home in Eastvale. Gorgeous day, but a chilly 40 degrees at 8am. Snow down to 2500’ all around me.
A bit flooded after rains...

More than snow capped, more like blanket of snow. Depending on the angle of view, even the Saddleback mountain peaks: Santiago and Modjeska have some snow.
Santa Ana Mountains. The Santa Ana Mountains are a short peninsular mountain range along the coast of Southern California in the United States. They extend for approximately 61 miles (98 km) southeast of the Los Angeles Basin largely along the border between Orange and Riverside counties.

I tried to ride some gravel, errr dirt, at Irvine Regional park today, but trails were closed due to mud from rains. Still had a nice 20 miles lapping the various paths around the park.

Cool ride this morning. Solo 40 miles on SART. The hanging silicone light ball sack was part of my Christmas present from my 37 year old daughter ha ha! ..along with a few cycling t shirts and some swag stuff.

Well, I got in a real quick 1 miler today. Took wife's car (CX9) to the mechanic, TCS light and skid control lights keep coming on. Just had the brake booster replaced 2 weeks ago. Been a great car so kind of weird everything goes at once so I am hoping it was something the mechanic missed while replacing the booster. Seemed the other night the lights went on and it felt like the brake calipers squeezed so hard I could not get the car to go over 15 mph. Out shopping. Pulled over, shut it off. Waited about 5 minutes then started up again like it was fresh off the lot. Another 8 miles or so and the light is back on. Hoping it would reset but over last 2 days, been driving ok but the lights keep coming on during short 10 mile trips.
So took it in, had the MTB in the back, dropped it off and headed home. Pfft! seemed like 3 minutes later I was home. Didn't have the heart to Strava the ride so if I miss my 17,000 mile target this year, you know why! .............That is a joke!
BTW, riding my MTB on the street vs roadie, felt like driving the car with the TCS and skid control on ha ha!

Just a quick 12 mile out and back to Seal Beach. It had been almost a month since I was on my bike. I've told myself that if the weather permits... I'm going to at least do the Seal Beach ride as bare minimum throughout the winter. I just hate any kind of cold. My plan is to just wait until later in the day when it starts to warm up a little (as opposed to leaving at 06:30)

SART..43.5 SOLO miles today.
As you can tell, I am not one of those, do my gloves match my tires and shoestrings?" type of guys. I just get on my bike and ride.
After I realized the headwind seemed to be kicking up both way, my jersey seemed to fit the bill.

Took the 29er out for a solo metric century Out/Back over Turnbull Cyn to Santa Fe Dam along the SGRT. The MUP was drama free of campers north of Beverly. Just nice to get out for a ride with the great weather we have this winter. No wildlife today, I sometimes get a coyote to run along side me for a bit.

Well I was on the same trail for awhile got on the SGRT at South St. up past the golf course then took Siphon Rd. to Lincoln & down the Rio Hondo trail. Off at Hollydale Park & down Gardendale quick SAG stop at my shop on Lakewood Blvd. Then over to the SGRT down to the Coyote trail back up to South St. (Orangethorpe) & back home.

Last weekend I explored the Mendenhall Ridge Road from Little Tujunga Cyn heading up to Mt Gleason, A gorgeous day in an empty lonely landscape. I took it easy as I'm trying to shake a few aches and strains and made it up 10 moderately easy miles (several rock slides and tumbled trees notwithstanding) before heading back, as the there was still snow on the shaded turns - not much but enough to call it a day. I will return, fitter, stronger and with better snacks.

Took the Mtn bike around Turnbull Canyon and through Hacienda Heights, over Powder Canyon, up Old Fullerton Rd, up Cypress and hooked up with Dorothea to get on the East-West Rd corridor. Then headed back thru Whittier to rollover Turnbull Cyn for the third time. I was really working hard and thought I should not be this fatigued. Got home and spinning the front wheel I found my problem. I had some front brake rub between the disc and pads.
Good workout otherwise.

I rode for all of 1.8 miles on the bike path in Manhattan Beach. I intended to go to Culver City and Back. But at mile 1.8 I hear a loud "bang". It was loud enough that people around me turned their heads. Turns out I blew out a sidewall on the front tire. It was a hole big enough for my pinky finger to fit through in both the tire and the tube. I only had about 85 psi in the tires.
Funny thing as I sit on the side of the path looking at this hole another rider stops with a flat tire at the exact same spot. He asks if there was glass there or how else did we both get a flat in the same spot within minutes of each other. I tell him "no glass" the sidewall just decided it was time to blow. He looked and found no glass either. His was a defect in the valve stem that by luck happened on the same exact piece of perfectly smooth clean pavement.
I tried to fix it with a new tube but no, with only 20 PSI the tire was so deformed it would not fit through the brake caliper. I walked back the 1.8 miles with no shoes and stopped on the way home for two new tires and three tubes.
I'll try again tomorrow.
What are the chances of two bikes getting flats not caused by a road hazard happening minutes apart at the same place?

noodling and toodling for thirty miles from fallbrook north along sandia crest rd. through the de luz area, descending rancho california rd. into temecula,
riding through temecula old town (buku expansion-they're pushing for those tourist/day trippin $$$) and riding up rainbow canyon rd. on the east side of the 15 fwy
back to mission rd. and back into fallbrook. cold as always in the deep de luz area canyons. lots of running water. low traffic as always. pavement in the de luz area a mix of good and good enuff.
a few small divots and a couple of big tree roots pavement heaves but nothing truly wretched. super smooth descent on rancho california. worst pavement on the ascent of rainbow canyon rd.
descent side (yes...going slow enough to observe/analyze) seemed better. "buzzy" chip seal pavement along the east side of the 15 until mission rd. where it improved.
wasn't in shape to properly ride sandia crest/de luz area. it's all up/down-no flats. the greenery is already out tho and it's pretty. that half-mile grade on northbound sandia crest rd.
(max 21% grade) ain't no joke. southbound sandia crest has a comparable stretch and then the last mile exiting de luz and entering fallbrook will get the heart rate elevated.
pretty area and frequently overlooked. will try to hit again once or twice before summer but gotta shed some lb's and gotta work on my 16%+ grade legs first.
sandia crest rd. currently closed for a stretch closer to its' northern end with a signed detour adding maybe 1.5 miles to workaround/ridearound. if you go, no services/stores
between fallbrook and temecula (about 14 miles) via the sandia crest (or de luz rd.) /rancho california route and cell service is spotty so plan accordingly.
it was low/mid-60's... had a windbreaker and used it on the descent into temecula and kept it on for the next 17 miles. sun was out the entire time and not windy but that jacket
was huge.
