Here is a pic of my new commuter.



This is a Crescent from 1980/81 in size 59 cm (23") measured from center of bottom bracket to top/end of seat tube, not top tube. Crescent is a Swedish brand that stars like "Svängis" Johansson, Åke Seyffarth och Ingvar Ericsson have used with success. I believe my bike to be a model 92318.

The frame is made of Reynolds 531 butted tubing and the front fork by Tange tubing.

The equipment is Shimano 600 EX Arabesque. The prettiest group ever made by Shimano. The chainset is not Shimano but a SR Custom and the bottom bracket is a Sakae SR-SC 35xP1. The wheels have Ambrosio Evolution rims and Schwalbe Marathon tires. I´ve built the wheels my self.

The bike is a roadbike but handling with packed front panniers is great. It is stable and smooth. Much better handling than without front panniers.

The frontrack is a Rivendell/Nitto Campee and the panniers are the Carradice Super C Universal made by heavy duty cotton duck.

I love riding this bike and also to ride it with my BOB YAK mounted. Only drawback is the gearing...would like to have a couple of granny gears
Chainwheels in front: 42 t and 52 t.
Cassette is 6-speed: 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, 22
Riding steep uphills in 42-22 combination is to heavy. Specially with a loaded BOB YAK attached. Puh

They forgot to put eyelets for fenders on that fork, so I'm not too happy with it. I have to attach my front fender to the front axle.

This Hodaka (only 1000 imported before a copyright/tradmark infringement stopped them from being sold, or so I've been told) I've done nothing to. It already had fenders and the rack and upright bars. Oh yes, it is a girl's frame, but it's too good for getting around for me to not use it.

This is the 3-speed All-Pro, which replaced the yellow car behind it after I had decided that parking tickets are definately stupid and not worth getting. I swapped out the front Arai sidepull and replaced it with a Cherry sidepull, not because cherries are any better, but the original Arai managed to warp itself into something that didn't function as a brake very well. It used to have a generator and lights, but those got stolen. The front wheel came off of a Senator 10 speed, and I put on a new chain a couple weeks ago.

Yeah I wish I could find another one like it, because I think it'd look pretty cool on a fixed gear.

You could get one custom made at a machine shop if you really want. It wouldn't need fancy shifting ramps etc with a single chainring.

Gas Grocery run. 93 Sherpa mtb from Dorado Imports, Tiburon CA (out of business I think)
Pannier: adapted Mondo attache bag. Expands about 4 inches with zip down middle.
Rack bag circa 93 nashbar. Frame bag is a battery bag (12ah lead acid) from a ZAP
elec motor system. Motor sucked but the bag is great, holds 5 cans and pedals dont
interfere. Velocity triple V wheels (new).

Here's mine, 05 trek 3700 mountain bike, mavic crosslink wheelset I got at a thrift shop for 10 bucks, Schwalbe Marathon tires, cheapo wal-mart lights, nashbar bag, 12 miles round trip, it gets the job done and it is actually fun to ride too.

Here's my new old friend. This was my first MTB, a '96 KHS Montana Summit steel hardtail. It's been hanging in the garage for three years and I decided it was time to outfit it as a commuter and start riding it again. I got some Lone Peak panniers, one of which is a lap top bag for my 15 an 1/2 inch Dell laptop, and a P500. I've ridden it in twice now. My commute is a 22 mile round trip. I'm really enjoying it and it is a great way to get some extra miles in......

Here is a pic of my Airborne Zeppelin turned commuter. She is one fast craft. Built up only for the purpose of getting me across town in very little time for work.

So one pic is the Zeppelin with nothing on it, and the other is when she is fully loaded with work clothes, shoes, and a rain parka. The last pic is of the Tubus rack.

Hello, it's a Cannondale bag I got from REI. It was in their clearance bin for $14.99. In fact, I think Performance.com still has it on their
website.

It's not really 'big' on the inside, but it's good for a cellphone, wallet, badge, sunglasses, keys, spare change, and a breakfast bar.

I hear ya. I had 3 bikes stolen so far.

1. My trusty Huffy Santa Fe. I think I was 16 at the time. I stayed the night over at a buddies house after a HS dance. A few of us did some drinking in the parking lot , and I remember passing out on his front porch. Woke up the next morning shivering in the cold, and my bike was gone.

2. Bought my brother a total of two bikes. Both were stolen.

Anyhow, last year I purchased a portable bike box on wheels. It was a little expensive, but it does the job of keeping the Zeppelin hidden from view. I also tend to place the box near the lobby of my work place so the security guard can keep an eye on it. I talk to him now and then about dieting, and exercising. He has come to know me and my bike pretty well.

The box doubles as transportation during the week between job sites. I try my best to leave it at work, and this includes the weekends....(this was something I just recently realized about my schedule and work needs).

At home, the bike gets stashed in my own version of the BAT CAVE.

I'm still working on getting it geared up. (As I mentioned in a previous thread, I can't for the LIFE OF ME get the SKS 35mm front fender installed since it doesn't have any eyelets!)

I'm considering the Fuji Newest 4.0 right now, cus it has an adjustable stem. How do you like the adjustable stem?

Did you pay below or over the MSRP for the bike?
