Early morning has for many years been my favorite time to ride. I have always loved hitting the road early enough that I needed lights. For some reason I'm having difficulty getting out early this year.

This past winter I rode almost everyday in December and January in Bangkok. I would usually leave around 7:00am (sunrise around 6:45) with a temperature around 74 on the coldest day and 78 on the hottest. By the time I got home 1.5 hours later it would be somewhere around 82-86 but the humidity is extremely high.

Just wanted to update the thread. I've been riding in the early evenings lately, with temps in the 90+ range, without much difficulty. Just needed to acclimate.

I'm in the Mojave Valley now, where temps are normally between 100 & 110 F. I don't really ride in this stuff, just use my panniers to carry a ton of water & pop. 😁😉
Just past dawn this morning, a roadrunner paid me a visit. 😎 He was obviously foraging for food, and came about 2 feet from my head. I was still in my sleeping bag, lol, so didn't see him right away, but definitely enough to ID him as a roadrunner. 😉

I'm here in Salem,Oregon and around 6 in the morning is very quiet and and the streets are pretty empty. Its the best time to just be by yourself😁

I've been heading out at 4:30/4:45 and I'm back home by 6:00 to 6:15am. I can handle the heat but .......... I cannot handle the heat with the hot AZ sun burning a hole through me.

Getting old I guess!

. I got to experience the Phoenix "dry heat" a few years ago. 106 degrees is hot as hell to me, even if it's "dry." I did explore Camelback Mountain trail in the early a.m. That was a nice little hike and manageable at daybreak. Had no bike while there, otherwise would have been riding.

I rode about 30 easy miles on the GT early early Sunday morning, then about 10 later that afternoon on the Schwinn, the heat wasn't too bad but the sun was brutal...

I made an exception and got out at dawn Sunday for a 50+ mile old dudes semi-fast group ride (hey, 16 mph over distance is fast for me). I was doing okay for awhile but faded right at the 50 mile mark and let the group go. I limped home the final 5 miles and napped. Got up that evening for another 35 mile casual group ride, which was more in my comfort zone.

On the plus side, the temperature was just reaching 80 or so by the time we finished, although it felt much warmer with humidity. In June there's often a cool breeze now and then on the hottest days. By July-August, we won't even have that other than the rare cooling t-storm front.

I am up at 5 during the week for work(construction), so I might as well keep it up on the weekend too. It's great for low traffic rides and getting 50 miles in before 9.

Awesome, dude! Have you considered a rain-bike build, with fenders?

Our humidity levels have risen dramatically in the past week. The forecast is calling for 100% RH overnight into midday. So there’s no point in an early ride now. Merde.
