I have a million dollar personal liability rider on my home insurance policy. Get a good lawyer, but keep that insurance policy if you have it, quiet, till the verdict comes in. It the ped knows about it he/she and they lawyer will sue for a lot more.

Having a good attorney helps. Talking exclusively with that attorney about the incident is also wise. Talking to the police isn't ever in your best interests in an accident case like this where you may be responsible. Comply, but keep answers simple, brief and self-consistent. Never elaborate on anything. Talk to your lawyer first.
