Monstermash- I was so inspired by your build that I joined this forum. Would you use the Sirrus Expert again as the base unit before mod? I'm inclined to follow whay you've done. Really very nice !!

I'm not sure I would buy another one. At least not a new one. I think they are grossly overpriced for what you get. If you want to build something similar try sourcing a Roubaix disc frameset and build from there.

I would recommend sourcing just the frameset and building from scratch. Otherwise you're going to be wasting all the road components. Of course you could always sell the take off parts but their not worth enough to justify the expense of buying the complete bike.
Of of course if you could find a good deal on a complete Roubaix disc then it may be worth it.
Is that 61cm frame your size?

I sure appreciate your insight. Thank you.
I agree and would rather just start with the frameset and have one set of components. Where would a person shop for just the frameset? Other than a dealer / retailer, offhand I would think they're not that commonly available. But I haven't started any significant searches yet.
60cm would be my frame size
Thank you again

Another thing that may interest you depending on your timeline..... My LBS is going out of business and they have a huge sale going on. I believe they still have some Roubaix disc bikes in stock but I'm not sure of what sizes are available. If you want, I can go take a look and report back.
Where are you located?

You're certainly banking bike-karma. Thanks for the thoughts. I'm in Michigan. Not looking to pull the trigger immediately, but might if a special frame showed up at a great price. I'd build the bike this winter.
Thanks again. Very exciting

BTW, are you just looking for a carbon frame? Or are you considering other materials such as steel? Also, what size tires are you planning on running and what would be the intended use for the bike?

Intended use? Mostly riding around lakeside... sound familiar? lol . Some moderate hills. Nothing extreme. Paved or compact trail. Nothing rough. So a tire on the narrower side. Narrower than my inexpensive Specialized crossover deal I ride now.
I guess if I'm going down this road, I'd look at all carbon. That's not set in stone.
Thanks-

I LOVE my new Salsa Vaya steel bike. While not as light as the Sirrus it is way more comfortable and much more fun to ride. I don't know what the roads are like where you are but in New England they a riddled with potholes and $hitty surfaces. Additionally the bike will allow for larger tires and if you have read what Schwalbe has been doing, they are claiming that a wider tire has less rolling resistance. And obviously a larger tire is more comfortable because it provides some suspension effect.
I'm running a 35c Schwalbe Kojak on my Vaya and it's awesome.
Just something to keep in mind as the Sirrus/Roubaix frames are seriously limited as to the size of the tires you can run. The Roubaix and the Sirrus (up to and including the 2014 model year) will only allow up to a 28c tire.

More great insight. Thanks again. I'm looking for a fun ride with performance gear on a nice frame. Steel would fit that bill. I'll have a look at the Salsa.
Which Vaya frame do you have?
I'm seeing many excellent Vaya reviews.

Sorry for the delay. I went over to the LBS that's closing on Tuesday and the largest Roubaix disc they had was a 58cm. Bummer.

Thanks for that effort! I'm looking to just get a frameset and build, so no worries.
Which Vaya steel frame do you have that you enjoy so much? Lots of really pleased Salsa riders out there I see.

i belive that the madone frame is the same as used on fx 7.7 and 7.9 hybrid bikes from trek. Its 2k off now and you will have a one off a kind bike.
