But really I think I’m more of an inn-to-inn kind of trekker. Or preferably cyclist.

Weekend riding report.
Friday on trainer - it sucked.
Saturday outside and windy - it sucked.
Sunday - outside and not windy it sucked.
One thing in common to all rides besides it sucked. Me. Root cause of suckitude? Magic 8 ball says:Me.
Attitude is everything.
Carry on.

That green bottle on the table with the blue cup on top is filled with liquid fuel to fire the camp stove for cooking. Firewood is for, you know, campfires. Though while in Whitefish, MT there were two guys at the hiker/biker sites who were riding the Great Divide MTB Route. They cooked some sausages over an open fire. Probably wanted to conserve fuel.

If you pay people enough they will carry your gear for you. You just have to do the walking up the hill bit.

Casually Deliberate
Someone broke down the Arizona Trail into 90 hikeable segments so you can do them over time. It's more manageable but you still have to have someone pick you up at the other end.

I will admit that trudging up a mountain with a pack on is, um, character building. But it is worth it when you are at the top. As is the ability to camp beside a tarn or in other lovely spots miles and miles form anywhere.

Sleeping on the ground without much cushioning and not showering and having a sore back for days on end: not that fun. I can live with it all ok actually except the having a sore back part, that’s kind of the deal breaker for me.
Hiking in general and going quiet places and being IN the beautiful parts of the world: one of the major things that drives me in life.
But you can get a lot of those same things on a sailboat- which has a shower and a bed and a coffee maker. I can’t really see myself hiring a human Sherpa to go back packing but I’d love to go horsepacking or llama trekking or even bring a pack mule along.
I am really seriously looking at options for a multiday mtb trip to either the White Rim Trail in Utah or the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Very appealing to be out in it for a few days. But we might settle for days trips into Zion NP.

I actually bought a pair of nearly-new Sidi Genius 5 (I think that's the number, looks similar to these ones but shorter in the ankle) in my size off ScamBay for about that price a few months ago. The current ones I am using are really worn. Will break out the brand new ones soon.

Today at the Colusa National Wildlife Refuge:
.
...the birds area pair of white faced ibis in breeding plumage, and a northern shoveler duck.
A couple of bald eagles (one parent and an immature) flew over not too long afterward and everyone vamoosed.
There was snow both to the east on the Sierra, and surprisingly (in the photo) to the west on the higher peaks of the coast range. The weather was here, wish you were beautiful.

Both of my etap batteries died today. I was deliberately running them until death so I could get an idea of how long it would take. I alternate them every ride because I wanted to get an average of miles independent of front vs. rear.
They went 380 miles and died within 45 minutes of each other. Last 6 mi. of my ride were in a 17 mph gear at 95-100 rpm. Luckily, I was parked in the Illinois River valley and was mostly downhill to the car.
I think they are supposed to go longer according to SRAM and maybe they will after a few charges. Regardless, I'm going to charge them at ~300 miles from now on.
